When does one light the candle?

Hello
I need to ask this question on lighting candles in chuch. Do say the petion before or after you light candle in front of saint or of God?
 
Hi,

The candle is mainly a visible sign that someone has prayed at a particular place. The candle itself does nothing for the prayer. It doesn’t matter when it is lit.
