As the subject line says, when exactly does strong attraction get re-classified as lust?
When you let it. When it becomes a feeling for yourself rather than for the other person. As the subject line says, when exactly does strong attraction get re-classified as lust?
That definition works when the person in question is someone in your life who might eventually date, marry, etc. But what about a person on TV for example, or a nude figure in a museum? In those cases, where there will never be an “us”, when does attraction turn into lust? When it becomes self-centered. Attraction is about us, while lust is about me; attraction involves giving, while lust involves taking.
So as long as thoughts don’t turn into something explicitly sexual, there is no lust to speak of…I would say the line is drawn sexually. Getting excited about going on a date or even looking forward to a kiss I would consider to be attraction. But when your thoughts turn to sexual ones (aggressive kissing, sex, foreplay) then I would say that’s lust.
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. But as far as I know, lust, technically, is always sexual. The word lust might be used loosely to describe an intense desire for something, but strictly speaking it refers to sexual desire. I would consider “lust for wealth” to fall more under the category of covetousness than lust.Ok, now what about lust for other things? For example, when does the desire to make a good living turn into lust for wealth?
