Is it on Holy Saturday or Easter Sunday? I have never been able to figure it out and always forget to ask Fr

It is not for Catholics…Good Fri is a day of total fast and abstinence

Good Fri is not a day when we can eat meat or eat between meals…I would like a Catholic answer please. I am not interested in guesses from protestants

In the Roman Catholic Church, Lent officially ends at sundown on Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday), with the beginning of the mass of the Lord’s Supper.

Easter Sunday is the 40th day, but Holy Saturday is the vigil mass. So I think its after mass on Holy Saturday

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and lasts for six and a half weeks.

Sundays commemorate the Resurrection, so they are not considered part of Lent.

Lent last 40 days and from Ash Wed to Easter Sunday is exactly 40 days

This was a topic of conversation with my father in law earlier today. He said that lent is offically over when the gloria is said (or sung) at the mass on holy Saturday. It wouldn’t make sense that lent would end on holy thursday when we are really at the heart of what lent is all about. I have always heard that we continue with our fasting on Good Friday because of all the events that we are commemorating that day. At this point what is a couple extra days. If these last few days are hard for us, then it will be better for us to grin and bear it.

👋

You might be right because at the vigil mass when the Gloria is sung, all of the lights come on ,and we blow out our candles…until then the church is in total darkness except for the candles lit by the New Fire

We are going out to eat before mass on Holy Saturday and I don’t want to slip up and order red meat as I gave it up for lent and would really love to have it about now

Did I count wrong, I thought the 40 days ended Holy Saturday (this year, anyway)?

Never thought about when it technically ended, vigil or Sunday…

Lent might actually end on Holy Thursday but we still have the Tridium , and these are the 3 most holy and sacred days of the entire season, and we are not able to eat what we want, and as much as we want on Good Fri and I think for most of Holy Saturday( but on Saturday we aren’t forced to fast)

I think you did…lent lasts 40 days from Ash Wed to Easter Sunday…but the last 3 days are considered the Easter Tridium, I think
