When Encountering Unbelievers And Their Demons

Sometimes, we will encounter an unbeliever, or sometimes an (alleged believer who is truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing) who will say, do things very evil towards us, whether it be in attitude or in deed. As one of the Scripture readings stated yesterday, it’s our duty to, in love, try to lead them “home”. To show them God’s way, the way of the Cross, the way of Jesus, the Savior. But we WILL be persecuted for being a follower of Christ. I’ve seen it in my life alot, with friends, family. I need help in knowing what to do, besides prayer of course.

Last week, I had one such encounter with my BIL, H’s brother. He entered our home and started spewing off negativity, attacks to me and my hubby. It was literally unbelievable, and my 3 children were present all the while. I really believe he is possessed with the demons in this life, and is so lost. Have any of you ever taken a crucifix in hand and said to someone “In the name of Jesus, demon be gone”? How do you respond to an attack? Or, if a friend, starts yelling at you, attacking you for being a believer? Saying evil things? Thoughts? opinions? so appreciated here.

I would say something right when it happened like, “You are very negative and it really makes me uncomfortable. Please stop talking.” I know that seems a little too straight forward, but thats what I would do. Nip it right in the bud and let your boundaries be known.

**Yes everyday, ! but remember, its your soul you need to worry about, you cant worry why and how others act or do what they do.

I know its hard sometimes and it makes you angry. But ask God to forgive you and you forgive also.

You are suffering right now, but understand that" “the suffering soul is closest to God.”

Just remember one very important passage from the lips of Our Lord Himself:
Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: 12 Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you. (Emphasis mine)

I have to ask…what the blazes was your hubby doing during all of this?! He should be taking the lead in keeping his brother in line in your home. If he is weak in that regard, then he better at least be backing you when toss BIL out on his ear. Even if BIL is not possessed, what he’s doing is just evil and should not be tolerated.

Thanks!! Yes, he SHOULD be taking the lead in alot of areas, but this is a hard one for him seeing the way he was raised where his mum literally “wore the pants in the family” and still does. You’re right, it was not tolerated and will not be in the future, that’s for darn sure. I think Jesus also had to get tough at times and take a stannd. It doesn’t mean "a Christian should never get angry, right? This has been a real lesson for me, always trying to please people and be “nice” all the time. Gee Wiz, we all have rights!!

True. Just remember you must ALWAYS be charitable and bear suffering and carry your cross. You have to find a “balance,” which you can do with the help of a good Priest and prayer of course.
 
It is one thing to meekly accept abuse and another to have one’s children exposed to such attacks without a rebuttal. Their faith, the innocence of their souls is your first responsibility. To let such an attack go uncountered could very easily cause your children to accept very mistaken beliefs. You did well to rebuke your BIL and to let him know that such behavior will not be tolerated in your home.
