When go to Confession?

I was baptized Catholic as a baby. But I never grew up in the faith. Last year though I was drawn to the Church and went for months. I was enrolled in to become confirmed but soon droped out due to personal problems and a doubt of faith. I have recently accepted Jesus Christ and the Church again. This time due to an experience I had and now my faith is even stronger.

Now to my question. I was wondering when one may go to confession. I sorta vaguely remember my sponser last year said you can go when ever you are ready and make your first confession. But my Grandmother who grew up Catholic told me that is wrong, and that you have to wait until a specific time set by the church. So I was wonder when can one go to confession, because I would love to make my first confession asap.

Another Question I have is when can one take first communion? I was just watching EWTN and Mother Angelica mentioned that one can take it before confirmation, but that contradicts what I have read and learned. Can anyone shed light on this aswell?

When I was growing up we had our first confession, then our first Communion, then confirmation - in that order. I think you would probably want to enroll in an RCIA class, truly learn what your faith is all about and then receive the sacraments. Talk to your pastor - I’m sure he can help you set it up.

Normally, first confession occurs just before First Holy Communion.

Talk to your priest, and go. And ask for help. And go often. It’s one of the best ways to develop a strong interior life. Confession, well done, frequently done. Once a month is not too often.

At our church it’s Saturdays at 4:45 pm. But this past Sunday our priest said as a priest he couldn’t refuse any one at any time. I liked that! Just so happened today I was troubled all day with the though of a sin. I just couldn’t work it out. Waiting until Saturday would have drove me crazy. I go to Rosary meeting on lots of Tuesdays, then go to mass after. So I packed up and went to church this evening. After mass I asked the priest to hear my confession. He said lets do it my son. It was nice! We’ve been working together for a short while now. I like to sit face to face looking into each other eyes. He helped me with my problem. The answer is most every Saturday evenings, or when ever you can get a priest to listen to your confession. They should be on call 24/7, when needed.

Enroll in RCIA. There were some people this year who were only baptized Catholic and didn’t receive the other Sacraments. We had a retreat where they made their first Confession, had First Communion on Easter Vigil, and then they’re getting confirmed at Pentacost. I’m not sure if it’s like that everywhere, but ask your parish’s RCIA director. Let me know if you have any questions. Your in my prayers. Keep fighting the good fight on your way Home!
