If you lust after your wife you are degrading and dehumanizing her.
LOL! Im sure a lot of wives out there would disagree with you. How about asking the guys, are we being degraded & dehumanized if our wives lusts after us? CERTAINLY NOT ME! NO SIREE! 😃

The guy who wrote the book I mentioned is married, and young.
oh he was just parroting the rulings of the higher ups. those old & unmarried men who has very little understanding of the married life.

When you understand that “the married life” is practice for marriage (communion) with God, then you realize that it is only through a religious lens that earthly marriage can be understood in its fullness.

Also, you defined lust as “unbridled” sexual desire. That word says it all. Controlling our appetites (sexual and otherwise) goes to the root of both greed and lust. I don’t think you would agree that unbridled anger, or unbridled gluttony, or unbridled sloth, or unbridled envy are good things.

I think that you would agree that unbridled love is a good thing. But as I said in a previous post, lust is not love. Lust is for me. Love is for the loved.

thats what you think.

you took that out of context. here:
intense or unbridled sexual desire
you know what ‘or’ means? in logic ‘or’ makes a statement true if either one of the conditions are true.
But as I said in a previous post, lust is not love.
i agree, thats why in my posts i distinguised love from lust.

Think about it, is greed & lust always bad? Or is there a benevolent reason why greed & lust remains to be an inherent human trait?
No. Greed leads to other human beings not having enough and people pump their bodies full of synthetic chemicals and hormones or use other synthetic devices to indulge their lust. Thus, neither are natural or reasonable.

St. Thomas Aquinas does a good job in one of his works of comparing man to other animals to show why man should reasonably be monogamous. Some animals are promiscuous and some are monogamous. We share the traits with the monogamous animals that make it advantage for them to be so.

Likewise, just lusting on one’s heart is also unnatural. That desire to reproduce is just that, a desire to reproduce–lusting in one’s heart does not lead to that end.

Likewise, man is a social animal and therefore depriving his fellow man of needed resources when the former already has enough is not advantage to his survival.

lust definitely leads to that end. thats how solomon was born. through david’s sheer lust.

No, its the fact that you get when you use the Catholic definition of the word “lust”.
I’m really starting to think that you’re nothing but a troll. Tell me this, would you agree that lust, as the Catholic Church defines it, is always a bad thing? I have already said that intense sexual desire for your spouse can be a good thing.

Oh, and yes, if my wife looked at me as nothing more than a sex toy that can take out the garbage, I would feel degraded and dehumanized. If you wouldn’t I’m sorry that you have such a low opinion of yourself.

No - David and Bathsheba’s FIRST child, who wasn’t Solomon, but who died soon after birth, was born from their lust.

Solomon was born AFTER David repented fully of the murder which resulted from his lust (hence of the lust itself) and honourably married Bathsheba. And David wouldn’t have married her after all they went through beforehand if he didn’t genuinely love her - lust won’t stand those sorts of trials.

Someone needs to reread their Bible. 🙂

Lust as defined by the catholic church is always a bad thing.

Lust as defined by unbiased dictionaries are not always a bad thing.

I would too, if its pure lust without a touch of love. But I have always argued that Love mixes well with Lust within marriages. dont you agree?

well its lust that got them together. and the point is, lust still produced a baby.

Then I don’t know what you’re arguing about. Nobody here has said sexual desire for your spouse is wrong. 🤷

Intense sexual desire does make an object (a sex object) out of the subject of your intrest. Its technically selfish. And thats what most people here have an issue of. Selfish deeds arent always a bad thing. In this case, it doesnt harm anyone, but rather compliments your partner.

No, your reaction to the desire is to objectify her. It is not the only possible reaction. People can react to this objectification in any number of ways. They are degraded whether they recognize it or not. It degrades you as well, making you a less caring and loving person.

Good can come from selfishness, but that doesn’t make it good. The ends don’t justify the means. Keep in mind that selfishness is not simply acting in you own self interest, it is doing so to the serious detrement of others.

@TS

IMHO, you are arguing about semantics. If you define lust by another definition and the people here by another definition, how would you hope to reconcile the case? There is no common ground.
