So after the priest absolved me, he realised I hadn’t done the act of contrition, so he told me to do it in the Church along with my penance, is this okay? Or should I have done it in the confessional?

My priest usually either has me do mine in the confessional before absolution, or has me say it afterwards.

If there are lots of people waiting, we’ll say one as a group before he starts hearing confession.

Sometimes I’m not asked to do it at all. I’ll do it anyway after leaving the confessional.

Why would you ask internet strangers about this and not take the word of an ordained minister of God?

Yeah it’s fine.

An interesting fact about traditional confession. The priest begins saying the prayers of absolution when the penitent begins the act of contrition. So, the priest and the penitent are both talking at the same time. It took me ages to get used to it.

What your pastor says, you must do. If he is leading you astray, you will not be at fault.

I’ve had that experience. Always assumed it was because there was people waiting and he wanted to hear lots of confessions.
