When in adoration

I’m sorry somebody said something to you about your shorts. Really, it’s nobody’s business but yours and God’s, unless of course you showed up in nothing but your underwear or something. Who knows why a person might be wearing what they are when they go to adoration.

We have to be careful when we judge… for example, I was out of town once and went to Sunday mass, where the priest used glass chalices, which of course isn’t permitted, and I was a little annoyed, even though I did not plan to say anything about it.

At the end of the mass the priest told the congregation that the night before, the parish safe had been burglarized and all the metal chalices stolen.

I kid you not.

great thread. I often (not often enough though) go to my parishes adoration chapel, and sometimes i am coming from work, or i am coming from somewhere that i have a sweatshirt on or something, (not church attire) and while i would rather be dressed more appropriately, it is about ADORING OUR LORD, not our dress. try to dress as you should before our Lord, but it’s not always possible, and God knows this, he is a cool guy

=pink8888;9974634]when inside the adoration chapel and the Blessed Sacrament is exposed, is it a good idea to confront someone who is minding her own business and telling that person that she shouldn’t be there because she isn’t dressed properly…(if the person is wearing shorts)

Maybe NOT a “good idea” but it was certainly done with GOOD INTENTIONS!

I live in Florida and pass a church that has 24 hr adoration chapel when I go to the VA. Sometimes I’m in shorts and drop in for a visit. If I’m just going to the AC, I dress up better.

Don’t make an issue out of it, charity begins at home:thumbsup:

How short were the shorts? What was the occasion / situation? Maybe it might be appropriate, maybe not.

Since God is in the room He can handle the situation in the most appropriate manner possible.

Like Cat pointed out- we don’t know the circumstances behind the dress.

It would be a whole other thing entirely if behavior of someone was explicit. I think that’s the only thing we would have to worry about or ‘take care of’.

I go to Adoration in the early morning hours of Sunday, from 1 am - 2 am. (Sometimes it’s necessary to stay until 3 am.) You will never find me there in shorts, or even in jeans, altho there is not another soul there during that time but myself and my husband.

But you see for me to go before the Blessed Sacrament dressed in what I consider inappropriate clothing for the occasion, would be to disrespect the King - the very one I am there to adore. In my case, it could even be sinful, so strongly do I feel about this…but then again, that’s just ME! I imagine someone else would believe, “The Lord doesn’t care what I wear.”

HE is the reader of hearts, period. (Of course, it probably wouldn’t hurt to occasionally ask ourselves what our inner motivation is, or if we are possibly giving scandal to others.) If I were going to see the President of the U.S., or had an audience with the Pope, I wouldn’t be showing skin, much less so before the Real Presence of our Lord. It all goes to who we are (the inner self) and how we have formed our opinions and convictions.

I would really avoid telling someone something like that in the chapel. There is a chance that they may be new and honestly not know how they should dress, and they’d appreciate it. But there’s also a chance that they take offense and wind up telling you off and causing a scene, ruining not only your time in front of the Blessed Sacrament and anyone else’s in the Chapel as well.

It reminds me of a time I was standing in line for confession before 9:00 Mass on Sunday and everyone started praying the rosary. The church was about half full and everyone was reciting the rosary in a normal speaking voice, but a woman two spots ahead of me in line started yelling HAIL MARY FULL OF GRACE… trying to get above everyone else’s voice. It was extremely obnoxious and people were looking at her. About halfway through the first mystery the woman in front of me asked her if she could quiet down a little bit and the woman went ballistic, saying it was unchristian of her to even ask and that she should confess etc She then continued to recite the rosary even louder. After confession the woman while praying her own penance stopped to yell at the other woman just coming out of the confessional and ask if she confessed to trying to stop her from praying the rosary. And it just continued throughout Mass with dirty looks and finer pointing.

And I remember thinking what an incredibly distracting thing. It ruined my confession, my penance, and the Mass for me and other people. I believe the Priest talked to her after the complaints because she doesn’t yell anymore. If left alone that woman would have only ruined the recitation of the Rosary for us instead of the entire Sunday Mass.
