When is a good time or age to get married? If you don’t mind, can you tell us when you got married?

I was 22, and just graduated college. We met when I was 18. But I must say, everyone has a different time table. If you know who you are and what you want in life then go for it. If you are still “finding yourself” then be patient. This is a life partner and “forever” is the commitment.

The only time to get married is when you find the person that completes who you are. Courting or dating is the time when you see if this is indeed that person. You should get married when you KNOW that the person that you are marrying completes you physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. This can take some time. So at what age does this occur? For me at the age of 22. For some maybe at the age of 62 or later. It’s not the when that’s important, it’s the who and the why.

Marriage is a lifetime covenant whereby the two become one. I am very happily married after almost 28 years. Why? Because I took my own advice…God Bless…teachccd 🙂

Each person is unique. The right time to get married is when God calls you to that vocation.

I was 38 and my husband 42 when we married after knowing each other 2 years.

The right time to be married is when each person recognizes the call to that vocation and when each person understands what that Sacrament means .

This is nice in movies, but, actually - God designed us to be complete as long as we have communion with Him. No other person can complete us.

When one has discerned that marriage is the vocation, and you have found someone of like faith and values who is ready to join you in that vocation, you marry.

Then call my 27 year marriage the movie of the century!!🙂 I’ve been quite blessed to have a wife that has made me complete and while many can find this in other vocations, I was directing my answer to the OP’s question. The OP was not asking about other vocations. My wife definitely completes who I am but I sincerely thank you for sharing your opinion…God Bless…teachccd 🙂 😉

OOPS!! Almost forgot. When God created Adam, He said that it was not good for man to be alone and created a suitable partner for him. So apparently God doesn’t see things as you stated or He would have quit with Adam…😉 teachccd

No cookbook recipe answer for this question, in my opinion. For me, it was at age 33 after a short conversation with God, who I had abandoned for the prior 20 years (“God, what do you want me to do?!!?!”). I followed the grace I so undeservingly received that day into marriage. It has been through the years of my marriage that God has worked the impossible with me - transforming me from self-assured atheist into humbled Catholic - by inflicting precisely the right type and amount of discomfort at exactly the right times.

So the timing, I believe, is much less important than for you and your fiance to be totally open to God’s will from the get-go. He’ll help you from there.

God bless! Tim

I think Spring is the perfect time to get married…
not to hot :tanning: not to cold :winter: .

I thought that asking someone to marry me would be the hardest thing in the world to do, but once you do find that special person, it was actually very easy!!! I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life and that was that.

I was 26 and my new bride was 21, yes, she was a bit young since we had been together since she was 20, but age is irrelevant for the most part. She has a maturity beyond her years and has a beautiful soul. I was the only sibling in my family to marry a Catholic woman and we couldn’t be happier. My two brothers both married non-Catholic women and they are almost atheists now! Not saying it’s their wives fault, just that they never got that needed support from their spouse so they have lost their faith.

Just remember, keep God first in any relationship and you can’t go wrong…

Not good for man to be alone, God created a helpmate for him. God did not create another “half to complete him”.

Those things sound sweet when you say it to your wife or husband, but, let’s not get another group of young people who think that marriage is to based on a rush of romance.

Since ya asked a direct question I’ll try not to dance around it.

Keep in mind this is just *my *opnion. For young ladies I’d say 22-26. Young men I’d say 26-30. I have my reasons for those numbers but thats another thread.

Not to say outside that window won’t work, but you asked what I thought was “best.”

Obviously you didn’t read my post. But again, I thank you for sharing…teachccd 😉

Actually, between a man and his helpmate, helpmeet, helper - choose your translation:

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.

GOD’S WORD® Translation (©1995)
So the man named all the domestic animals, all the birds, and all the wild animals. But the man found no helper who was right for him.
King James Bible
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
American King James Version
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
American Standard Version
And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help meet for him.
Bible in Basic English
And the man gave names to all cattle and to the birds of the air and to every beast of the field; but Adam had no one like himself as a help.
Douay-Rheims Bible
And Adam called all the beasts by their names, and all the fowls of the air, and all the cattle of the field: but for Adam there was not found a helper like himself.
Darby Bible Translation
And Man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but as for Adam, he found no helpmate, his like.
English Revised Version
And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found an help meet for him.
Webster’s Bible Translation
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowls of the air, and to every beast of the field: but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him.
World English Bible
The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper suitable for him. Young’s Literal Translation
And the man calleth names to all the cattle, and to fowl of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; and to man hath not been found an helper – as his counterpart.

A married couple isn’t two halves of one person. That would imply that there are a great deal of oddly divided people walking about searching for another person to fill the spaces they lack in.

I personally think that any Christian man could marry any Christian woman, and it would work out fine. Why? Because of all that is implied in that single, ah, adjective? “Christian”.

And by no means do I claim to having ever met a Christian man or woman, but…

Where I live, I think Fall would be best. Maybe Winter. We don’t ever get really cold, around here, and we generally have flowers growing year round. I’d say fall, definately fall. Our trees don’t loose their leaves, either, so there are no dead looking trees to mark the background.

I was 18 and dh was 19, we had our first child almost a year to the day later. It was very tough!!! Looking back, I think we were both a little young. I had just graduated highschool and still had alot of maturing to do still…and we rushed into having children when we were still children ourselves.

It was a REAL BIG adjustment and our marriage almost didn’t survive the first year (and more!).

I don’t know how we did it but we have been married for over 7 years now and have 2 happy children. And now DH and I are also very happy too:) We stuck it out and have been through so much that has only made us stronger.

With that said I would not suggest getting married until over age 21…

Wow!! So many translations!! Thank you for that!! Got to go, however, my helpmate is calling me for dinner…teachccd 😉

P.S. You never did read my first post in this thread. I’m so sorry that my being happily married for 27 years offered no advice…I’ll go now and have dinner with my helpmate.
