I’m having a hard time grasping something: crude jokes. What exactly makes a joke crude? Surely, ‘That’s what she said’ jokes (not that I say them) are not mortally sinful? I think they’re disrespectful, but not grave. What makes a joke crude? Are crude jokes lustful?

If so, does that make it a venial sin to laugh at (it can’t be mortally serious unless taken to the extreme, right?)

I think a crude joke is a joke that is EXTREMELY sexually graphic or racist.

Those “That’s what she said” jokes, in my opinion, are a not even close to being crude. They’re actually pretty funny sometimes. 😛

And no crude jokes are lustful. They’d only be lustful if you started to DWELL ON the sexual nature of the joke for a very long time.

Jokes like this may be harmless to you.

These jokes however may contribute to a continuation of sinful behavior in others. If they see you telling jokes like this, it reinforces their acceptance of bad behavior. It entraps them longer in a downsward spiral.

You may not be directly responsible for their behavior or condition. However, you did nothing to help them out of their plight. If Jesus looked you in the eyes and shed a tear due to this, would you then understand.

You don’t think that maybe you might be taking telling a joke a little too seriously? I highly doubt that Jesus would cry over any joke. But that’s just me.
