When is it not okay to defend one's reputation?

I have heard that it is not always just to defend one’s reputation. Recently a friend assumed something quite unjust about me, but I know that no matter how I complain, she (and her mom!) will likely be very upset. What can I do?
 
It is always a person’s prerogative to defend his reputation from unjust attack, especially when the defamation is injurious not just to him but to other innocent people. Sometimes, when the damage affects him alone, a person may choose to remain silent and offer up the injury to God in union with Christ’s own sufferings, but this is never a requirement.

From your question, it sounds as though you are a young person. If so, I suggest explaining the situation to your parents or guardian and requesting their help in dealing with it.
