A priest recently told my wife that, according to Humanae Vitae, the church DOES allow a married couple to use articial birth control to prevent future children when “serious” problems arise. One example he gave was when the couple is experiencing serious financial and/or material constraints where the material needs of the existing children would suffer as a result of the birth of an additional child. Is this a valid reason to use artificial birth control?
