That will make 11 men from our parish ordained within the last 8 years 😃
This is frightening. The diocese of Detroit in 2006 had 303 parishes and 694 priests. Less than 1.5 priest yearly mean that 40 years from now there will be only 60 priests.

catholic-hierarchy.org/diocese/ddetr.html

The US total this year is 400 priest to supply for 40,000

Something has to be done. Prayer, and encourage our sons and grandsons toward the priesthood. May be remove the celibate as requirement.

When Garrigou-Lagrange wrote that 90% of the Catholics end up in heaven, 90% of the Catholics received viaticum. Who will give viaticum 50 years from now?

Notice he said ā€œfrom his parish.ā€ It seems you read it as ā€œdioceseā€.

In our deep southern archdiocese, two men will be ordained on June 11, two more next year, with quite a number coming along. There were four ordinations last year.

We have a pretty significant number of seminarians here, given the fact that it’s not a large archdiocese, and is in the heart of Southern Baptist country. Many have come through our local Catholic school system and the Catholic high school here; the Vocations Director is very proactive and has apparently done a great job.
For me, Mobile is 3 1/2 hours away, so we won’t be going this year. But in the next couple of years, there are a few men that we know, so we might make the trip. 🤷

Thanks.

The diocese is better: 2006 3, 2008 10, 2009 5; still two little for 1.4 million Catholics.

June 4th, We have three for ordination. One a married former Luthern Pastor. How awesome is that! I am definately going to try and go.

I didn’t know we had any. Who is it?
Warren Tanghe… he was a former Anglican. He was ordained a transition deacon late February … ordination is Friday, June 24 at the Basilica. Deacon Tanghe is at St John’s in Severna Park, about 15 minutes from me

June 11, and I will most definitely be going! I will be serving at the Altar!
Ours our June 11 also. Deaconate ordinations are June 4. We have I think 6 priests being ordained this year, not sure how many deacons. We won’t be going to either because of previous commitments. June is so busy with end of the school year commitments!

There will be 5 men ordained in the Archdiocese of Seattle on Saturday, June 11th. I’d love to be able to attend.

simple question

mine was today we ordained two new Priest a truly joyous day for the Catholic Church. šŸ™‚
We only have one person in formation and he’s not due for ordination for at least 3 more years. It will be too far to travel to attend unless I receive an invitation and opt to make it my annual vacation.

Wow, how sad. I’ll be praying for your diocese. Our diocese is doing well (an upcoming class of 10, for a relatively small diocese), so I’ll focus my vocation prayers there for a whileā€¦šŸ™‚

Wowzers.

As I had mentioned, we have about 1 a year from our parish alone. Two this year ( but none next year…oh well at least we keep our average šŸ˜‰ )
