When Jesus returns, will He touch the ground?

The only evidence we have one way or the other is from a verse in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. (NKJV)

This passage clearly points to the saints rising up to meet Jesus in the air, and opposes a doctrine that would teach Jesus descending to touch the earth at his 2nd coming. Coincidentally it also opposes the secret rapture doctrine because the context shows a cataclysmic event that everyone will see and hear where dead people are rising from their graves and both dead and living are rising up in the air. Combine this with 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 and you even have the resurrected and living saints being transformed and given new bodies. Nothing secret about that.

Just FYI, “rapture” simply means “taken up”; “secret rapture” is the evangelical doctrine that is being opposed by several in this thread, as well as by clear Bible teaching.

For your reference:
1 Corinthians 15:51-53
51Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53*For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (NKJV)

I love that the Bible has clear answers for questions like this. 🙂
