When may I receive the Eucharist?

I am going through the RCIA class and I have a question for you folks.

If I was baptised as an infant, but never confirmed or raised in the Church, may I still take the Eucharist, especially when I am very, very interested in becoming fully Catholic?

Thanks!

Dear Jessica,

The Eucharist is not for one who is very interested in being a Catholic. It is for one who lives as a committed Catholic. In order to receive the Eucharist one must be validly married (if one is married) and in the state of grace. Before receiving the Eucharist one must be sufficiently instructed in what the Church teaches about it and have gone to Confession. You are in my prayers.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.

P.S. The wait is worth it!
