When should I stop examining my conscience?

I have to make a general confession, and I have a good memory or something. I examined my conscience and have almost 50 pages of sins over all my whole life. I am starting to willfully suppress my urge to dig into my memory because I need to get to confession, and it is getting really long. I am in mortal sin and need to go, but I fear that I am going to commit a sacrilege, or I am sinning by not fully examining my conscience, and I do not find everything I can remember.

For example, I remember we teased a boy, so i elaborated a little bit. If i wanted to, I could probably remember dozens and dozens of instances where we teased him and what we told him and then write it down for confession…that was like 30 years ago.

What if I really do not have a good memory, and my conscience is working properly and is telling me that I need to dig deeper?

When do I stop? Should I continue bringing up memories? I am so afraid of making a bad confession because I will not get everything that needs to be confessed if I willfully suppress my memory.

Is willfully suppressing my memory or my urge to dig into my memory in this instance a sin? I might be able to do this for months and write a book of my sins. I fear it could go from 50 to 100 or to a 1000 pages of everything I ever thought, said, did, or omitted. If I stop, my intention is that I do go back from time to time and meditate on my life, and mention anything I find at a later date, but not to withhold sins. I just hate going to confession believing I have left something out for the sake of time and wanting to be a state of sanctifying grace.

In the past I have not listened to my conscience and have made unworthy confessions. I do not know if my fears here are appropriate or if they are out of ignorance of what I am supposed to do.

Thanks

Hi,

There are only so many kinds of sins one can commit. Put them in categories, count them and just mention the kind of sin and the approximate number of times you committed it, e.g., I was inconsiderate of others about 200 hundred times. And then be done with it. No going back and wondering if you forgot something. You don’t want to start scrupling. God’s mercy is infinite and He can make up for weak memories. (I’d be in big trouble if this were not the case!)
