I know that we should never give up on praying to God. However, if I keep on praying for something and then God is silent, should I conclude that God’s answer to my petition prayer is NO? How do you know if you should keep or stop on praying for your petition?

Pray away.

The judge gave a verdict to the woman just because she was persistent.

Monica prayed DECADES for Augustine to become a Catholic, and he became one of the greatest saints.

Never give up on praying to God. I think you’ll know if you should keep on praying based upon the strength of your desire and the hope you have in God’s almighty power to grant it. It was St. Augustine who said, "The desire is thy prayers; and if thy desire is without ceasing, thy prayer will also be without ceasing. The continuance of your longing is the continuance of your prayer.” We must be patient with God who has been so patient with us.

I personally don’t always think that an answer to a prayer might be “No.”

God might be trying to work out the circumstances to that particular prayer situation for you, and it might be taking awhile.

I’ve had situations that did not resolve for a very long time, but I was consistent with my prayers. I kept on praying.

Circumstances can change with our situations too, where we also may need to keep on praying for a particular situation.

Editing to add that you might know when to stop praying for a situation if you see a clear answer to your prayer/s.

God bless you! 🙂

I’ve prayed for my daughter’s healing for many years, and I won’t give up! She has EDS, which is not curable, but God can cure and I put my Faith and Trust in Him. Doctors seem to fail her.
She is the mother of identical twin girls, age 2 1/2, and is in so much pain. We help her out alot.
Thank you to any one who is willing to pray for her. Her name is Darla.

Prayer is not just for getting something. Prayer leads to spiritual growth. The beginning of all virtue like St Teresa of Avila said. So do not stop.

Thank you everyone who responded to my questions. I’m so tired of being rejected by someone. I don’t know if God wants me to be single forever. I’ve read different articles about vocation in life. Others are faithfully praying and attending the mass but still they are single. Maybe, I keep on missing out God’s signs for me. Maybe, He wants me to live alone in this life and I am just stubborn looking for my future husband. It’s really painful.

I am on a prayer chain and we pray long term for people who are in need of it. Scripture says to pray without ceasing

Remember the woman in scripture that was given justice by a judge, because she wore him out with her petitions?

Keep on praying with child like trust and confidence never doubting even if it delays James 1:7, 8 for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord…God answers all our prayers ,provided it is the will of God ,good for your soul and at the appointed time ,and most of all pray through Mother Mary she will make it quicker and sure even thought it was not the appointed time for Jesus to perform miracles.

Luke 18:5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.’” 6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? 8 I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

Luke 1:37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Psalm 69:16 Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good;according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.

Psalm 123 :1 To you I lift up my eyes,O you who are enthroned in the heavens!2 As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master,as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,so our eyes look to the Lord our God,until he has mercy upon us.3 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,for we have had more than enough of contempt.4 Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.God Bless

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here.

@TheresaFinigan
It involves another person’s freewill and as we all know that God will not intervene to our freewill.

@oldgraymare2
Well, I don’t know but I don’t want to give myself a false hope about my current situation as it is more hurtful to know that at the end of the day, it is not aligned to God’s will. I just hope I have a clear answer from God.

@jean1
Thank you and I will pray for the continuous recovery of your daughter.

@Dan_Defender
There are many kinds of prayer, however I am referring to the petition prayer. And it involves another person’s freewill.

@redrosetea
Yes, I actually saved the link to a lectionary website about it. Thank you.
