Yes.Dear Husband, out of respect I just can’t call you “henpecked.” I am a wife about the same age as your wife, and I suffer from allergies, too. However, I am grateful for the fact that I have house cleaning help. I wouldn’t dream of asking my husband to do this job. Like you, he is at the top of his profession, and has many responsibilities at work. Also, like you, he has the responsibility of preparing us financially for his upcoming retirement since I don’t work outside the home. I want him to be able to relax when he gets home. I know that we are not suppose to give medical advice in this forum, but think that your wife is suffering from some sort of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Nothing any allergist would say to her would help. I know that your wife would dismiss this since she has a degree in psychology, but as someone who only has a BA in her field, I can tell you that this level of knowledge only tells you how much you don’t know. You need to discuss her condition with a psychiatrist who can develop the best treatment plan. Does she ever worry about what is going to happen to you? A man of your age who works as hard as you do, and who is under the stress that you are, cannot help but be paying the price physically as well as mentally and spiritually. What if you develop a stress related condition or have a heart attack or stroke? What is she going to do then? I am sure that you have the prayers of all of us reading this. I hope that this will help you to summon the courage to confront your wife, and insist that she get help. She won’t like it, but things will be worse for her when you have a heart attack or stroke.
