Because if not, the Chrism will mix with the Precious Blood. So do they wash it out after the Bishop would have anointed it?
When I watch consecration of altars, they don’t appear to wash the chrism off before the Mass resumes. Isn’t there a risk of it staining the altar cloths? Do they ever wash it out afterward? I imagine it would get sticky and would attract dust, because isn’t chrism just oil with incense melted into it?
