When to get a new Bible

A friend of mine has been reading the New Testament in one of those single volume books that ks only the New Testament. That is a volume he used for daily reading, highlighting and note taking.

He has been eyeing a leather bound edition of the Bible for a while but isn’t sure when to get it. He says he’s attached to his current New Testament. He wants to finish the entire New Testament in that copy before he gets another copy, but he is starting to really want an entire Bible.

It’s something he’s putting a lot of thought into and unsure of whether he should wait to finish reading through the New Testament first before buying an entire Bible.

What do you think?

Perhaps the Holy Spirit is at work and its best to standby? Or if you can afford it, and he does nothing before his birthday or Christmas, you could give it to him as a present?
 
Is he Catholic, and what is his preferred Bible translation (if he has one)?
