Hi everyone!

I have a question that I feel really silly for asking but here goes…

I recently started attending TLM (first and only church experience in my life) and of course I was quite surprised by all the kneeling but I also loved it and found it to be so incredibly beautiful and meaningful. Basically I just did what everyone else did and am still doing that, which keeps me from looking like a gigantic dork, but I really wish I understood for myself all of the different times to kneel.

Is there some resource that will break down everything for me so I may learn ??

Thank you!

I know some missals tell you when to kneel/stand/sit. I’ll try to find online resources, or if I have the time I could think it through by memory, hehe.

When in doubt, follow the local custom. These practices are not exactly uniform and never have been (though some people want to think so).

Isn’t the TLM absolutely wonderful? And yes, there is a lot more kneeling. When I came back to the Church 2 years ago after being gone for 38 years, I went to the Novus Ordo Mass and hardly recognized the Mass, one of the main reasons being the lack of kneeling. I was able to find a Latin Mass in my neighborhood and it was like going home. I still go to the Novus Ordo Mass during the week, since that’s all there is, and I am understanding and realizing the reverence of the NO in a much deeper way than when I first came back, but I personally prefer the TLM.

Anway, as to your question - when to kneel. Here is a link to a very nice chart which spells it out specifically. After you attend for a while, it will become second nature to you, but in the meantime, try this.

I am very fortunate where I attend in that they hand out small red missals that give you the entire Mass, and we get handouts of the reading for each week. If at all possible, I would strongly suggest that if you’re going to go to the TLM on a regular basis, that you get a missal.

Mary
