To everyone who prays the whole of the 1962 Breviarum Romanum:

When do you pray each Hour?

I am aware of the principle of veritas temporis, i.e. that each Hour should be said at its appropriate time of the day, c.f. Sacrosanctum Concilium 94:
That the day may be truly sanctified, and that the hours themselves may be recited with spiritual advantage, it is best that each of them be prayed at a time which most closely corresponds with its true canonical time.
–however, I am not awake in the middle of the night for matins and lauds. By the time I awake (6am), I ought to say prime

So, how do you work it, if you want to say the whole Office, and get some shut-eye? 👍

According to the 1962 rubrics, Matins may be anticipated on the previous day afternoon (though I’ve always felt that that is a bit odd, but whatever). Perhaps you could look to aggregating Lauds with Prime? Formerly Lauds also was allowed to be anticipated and was customarily said immediately after Matins but 1961/2 rubrics introduced some restrictions on that- I should look it up.

Thanks, AJV. I’m sure I’ve read the same, viz., that matins may be anticipated after 2pm, but lauds not at all.
