When to pray the Rosary at Low Mass

Historically, it was common to pray the rosary during Mass; however, there has been a movement away from that practice.

The Mass, regardless of its form, is still the most perfect form of prayer. To participate in another prayer, even the Rosary, is to dilute that. I don’t think there is any formal prohibition against praying the Rosary during the Mass, but it is becoming less common for the reason stated above.
Yes, In prayer man praises God. At Mass God praises God.

In other words, no one else makes any sense? That’s not a helpful comment.

FYI, this is not just something that is debated on CAF. There are varying opinions on this, as you can see since two Popes said two different things.
What other words? The words I said refer to a post that I and others find well-considered and common sense. I appreciate that.
There was no negative connotation whatsoever. No extrapolation of the meaning of the words is necessary.

Common sense tells me its best to apply Pope Pius XII’s words to the EF since that’s what he was talking about, and Pope Paul VI’s words to the OF since that’s what he was talking about.

Also, I think understanding the difference in the rules for the two Mass is key. In the old Mass, the laity is mostly left to our own devices on when to respond, with different parish having different customs, so private meditation on the Mass through the Rosary is no problem there. In the new Mass, we’re expected to say and do everything in the missal, so the only way to pray the Rosary is to ignore our part in the Mass to an extent. I think that is what motivated the later holy father’s remark.

To add to my last post, I would also consider the writings of Pius X, who said that the Mass itself was the best prayer.

So while I think there is nothing wrong with praying the Rosary at the traditional Mass, in obedience to the late Holy Father I wouldn’t consider it the best way to pray at Mass. Not all options are equal in our Faith

A respected source and frequent contributor here on the CAF, Brother JR offered this commentary in a similar thread some ten months ago:

Post #59 - Can the Rosary be prayed during the EF Low Mass Liturgy?
Brother JR gives a superb explanation, as always.

I grew up pre- and post-Vatican II, and had the good Sisters of St. Joseph as teachers. They always stressed that the Mass was the perfect prayer of the Church, and saying the Rosary was to take place only before or after Mass. We always said the Rosary as a group prior to our school Masses.
