When was the canon of scripture determined?
Council of Hippo (393 ad) approves 73 book canonCthompson

He was a very troubled individual. When he was a monk, he would perform extraordinary penances and fasting to appease God. He often despaired on his salvation and thought he could never be saved. It makes perfect sense why he would discard certain books that did not fit his agenda.I’ve often wondered how Luther found the audacity to tear book out of the Bible.
The part I bolded deserves attention, as the canon is not something the Church did, but something the Church does. So you can say the Church determines, or rather affirms the determination of God, in 2017, just as in the 4th century.Council of Hippo (393 ad) approves 73 book canon
Council of Carthage (397 ad) approves the same canon, again
Council of Trent (1441 ad) formally defines 73 book canon
First Vatican Council (1869 ad) reaffirms the 73 book canon, yet again.
It’s been 73 consistently throughout Christianity’s existence. Don’t let Protestants fool you that Catholics added books to the Bible.
There was not a clear and concise determination of the books of the OT amongst the Jews of Jesus’ time. The old accusation that the Jews widely practiced the OT of 39 books does not stand up to historical analysis.
The church has consistently stood firm for well over 1700 years that the canon of the Bible contains 73 books.
