I was wondering when the Indult for receiving in the hand actually happened in the US (I know it was after 1976, something like 1978?) If someone knows and can direct me to the documents on this it would be helpful.

I was also wondering when EM’s (now EMHC’s) were first started here in the US. I seem to recall having a few of the Sisters from my school being EM’s the year I graduated which was 1976. I would like documentation on this as well if possible.

Thank you in advance to all who can help me with this.

Both practices are found in the USCC document *Selected Documentation From The New Sacramentary *published in 1974.

It makes reference to “Special Ministers of Holy Communion” on page 18 and on page 19 to the “Manner of Ministering Communion” in the Roman Ritual, Apostolic Constitution - “*Missale Romanum” * dated June 1973.

It says on page 95 #240 that Communion under both kinds is discussed in BCL, July 1966. That the CDW instruction on this matter can be found in the document issued June 1970.

Communion under both kinds is also addressed in #240 of the main text of the GIRM (1973)
