When were you taught about hell?

Looking back on my life, I wasn’t taught about hell at my catholic primary school or at my church, the priest never mentioned it once.

My parents showed me a cartoon on fatima at a young age and that’s when I learned there was a hell for “bad people”.

Do you think it should be taught more in schools? I mean, it’s core catholic teaching yet no-one is talking about it anymore.
 
I was taught that if was not literally per Biblical description then be sure the metaphor is as close as our minds could grasp.
Lots of art shows it, too.
It is true but emphasizing it too much would tend to bring on imperfect contrition.

I think by five years of age.
I know for sure by seven years.

Which does not mean I had a mature adult understanding of it.

Starting at age 5 in primary school. I was taught by nuns
 
I can’t even remember, so that could mean I was taught that as young as possible?
 
Went to Catholic school from kindergarten through eighth grade, I remember before I made my first confession the priest had told us about hell, it scared me, I think we were a little bit to young to understand and if I remember correctly the priest was a bit graphic but I got through it alright.🦋🦋

They had Black Sabbath records too.

I was an altar boy - the whole nine yards - never considered Hell -
I was going along my own happy way - good vibes - etc -
Those records - sneaking listens when they weren’t home - woah.

Then I read their book " Amytyville Horror " - etc -
 
As a very young child, growing up in a Pentecostal denomination that took very literally the descriptions in the Bible.

I’ve always known Hell is real. And that I don’t want to go there.
 
That it is the state of your soul if you die having rejected God.

Opps I misread, When as what.

I don’t remember when, probably as a grade schooler going to saturday CCD classes.

I grew up in the Fifties with the Nuns, who taught us at age 6 (Grade one) about Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. Our Pastor was a regular visitor to classes back then. Obedience and respect was given to all adults and Clergy. This discipline kept me on the right path in my youth, and with my Faith. Out of this obedience I learned fear of Hell, but love for Jesus, and Heaven. Our Pastor pulled no punches from the pulpit about the dangers of sin and Hell, but taught me to love the Stations of the Cross. He was so reverent, and I pray to him that he will shepherd my own children and grandchildren today.
 
From the start. My parents taught me about God and Jesus and life and death and heaven and hell and sin and forgiveness all from the first day of my life.
 
I was “taught” about Hell early on…mainly as a finger waging warning not to be “bad”…I was not properly (IMHO) catechized on Hell until much later, and to continue my opinion, I feel that many have not been provided with teachings that emphasize the difference between folk teaching and catechesis on the topic.

My niece who is seven - reprimands me - if I say " hell "
She looks at me - as if I had three heads -
I told her it isn’t ‘a swear word’ - " close enough " she insists -
So I try - not to say the word - hell - anymore -
