Hello everyone,
I have been asking for God’s guidance for many years now, to show me the path I must take in this life. But I still do not seem to get a straight answer so to speak, I sometimes feel that I am being prompted at times to do certain things but nothing life changing seems to come my way.😦 I am not losing my faith by any means, but I am just curious ,and a little sad that nothing seems to happen. I pray morning and night, go to Mass regularly, confession when I need it etc. still nothing major happens, does anybody else feel like this?, any advice anyone?. Thank you in advance for any replies,
God Bless,
Mick. 🙂

Faith and Patience. I was in my early 30s before I was even brought back to the Church and back to God. I pretty much prayed 4 prayers every night and then in my 30s felt this drawing back and slowly His way of showing me what he wanted me to do.

There is our time and there is God’s time and all we can do is follow his commandments, love him, follow the teachings of the Church, partake in the sacraments as you are already, have Faith and wait for Him to guide us more and to what he wants us to do for Him and the Church.

Some people get a great big push and others he works more slowly. And when I look back over my life before this life, I have realised that my life before God was really a preparation for my life that would begin more with God. For me part of that preparation was becoming a mother and a parent. Learning strength from certain hardships. Experiencing certain hardships so I could empathise more with others, etc etc.

Everything I was before He has used to make me who I am now.

He is probably preparing you in ways you have not necessarily noticed.

Most people serve God in the ordinary acts of their daily lives. “And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Col. 3:17) So possibly you are in fact on the path He has for you, but because it’s not dramatically unusual you’re not recognizing it?

OTOH, if you feel an emptiness and a sense that He has something more for you, perhaps you ought to take active steps to explore possibilities, with the prayer that He will open doors to lead you on the way He would have you go, and close the ones that lead elsewhere? You can volunteer with a foreign mission, for example, if you think that perhaps He is calling you to that field. You can spend your holidays as a guest at a monastery if you feel you may have a call to a consecrated religious life. If your life has already led you to marry, perhaps a Third Order affiliation would be the way He shows you.

No real answers here, just thoughts. And a prayer that He will honor your desire to serve Him!:signofcross:

Hello again,
kyria and NHInsider, thank you for your very quick replies, you have given me food for thought, I will keep trying!!

If you feel emptiness, it might indeed be that God is calling you to something different. It is equally likely, if not more so, that He is calling you to do better with what you have now and where you are now. St Therese the Little Flower wanted desperately to be a missionary - it was God’s will that she stay in her humble position in a convent and work there instead.

Perhaps simple things like increasing your prayer life outside of Mass and those ‘formal’ prayer times. Do you read Scripture and other spiritual works as well as just praying? Is all your prayer formal - you might try just spending time in front of the Blessed Sacrament before or after Mass in more informal prayer, making little aspiratory prayers throughout the day. Not to mention being a better friend/child/spouse/parent/sibling/worker and so on.

And by the way, God doesn’t often do things to you or for you - He usually encourages you to do things to and for yourself.

We will always need His grace to do anything. On our own, we are nothing. I struggle with that every day. The best we can do is to pray each day with whatever we need to get through it. Be negative, positive, or whatever, God can use many means to use us and to speak to us. Sometimes we will do something without thinking that God is directing our path.

Do you have a Church near you that offers Eucharistic Adoration? If so, go and spend 15-20 minutes and ask our Lord Jesus Christ to speak to your heart. “The classroom of silence” says Matthew Kelly

I have three suggestions for you:
  1. A parable:
A master and his students were sitting on the steps of the temple one day. A student and a foreign dignitary stood off to the side. The foreigner scoffed and demanded to proof of the master’s wisdom. “what miracles has your master performed?” he demanded. The student calmly replied: “There are miracles, and then there are miracles. Where you are from it is considered a miracle if God does a person’s will. Here it is a miracle when a person does the will of God.”
  1. A saying:
Only the devil gives us everything we want and tries to comfort us all the time. That makes us dependent. God prunes us and leaves us to stand on our own because He seeks our strength and in our strength to have our devotion.
  1. A relation:
I’ve often felt the way you do right now. The feeling that maybe God is just ignoring you a bit (that’s not true, but He does give us distance to wander, like a loving parent lets their child grow and have some freedom to move about on their own). You’re at the toddler phase… God is letting you toddle accross the livingroom by yourself at the moment, no longer holding you at each step. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’ll tell you from personal experience as well, as soon as life knocks you down to your knees, when you reach out, God is still there.
