Currently, there are many different Catholic translations of Scripture for the faithful to pick from. The one officially approved by the USCCB is the NAB. The only thing about this translation is that in some places (particularly to my annoyance in Luke 1:28) it can veer almost into somewhat liberal theology. The problem with Luke 1:28 (even though it is a small one) was the reason I bought the RSV CE for private use. I love it! And really, when the Lectionary is read at Mass you can’t really tell the difference between the NAB and the RSV. But the thing is that the NAB Lectionary, of course, has been “cleaned up” a little. When will this cleaned up translation of the NAB be available to all the faithful outside of the Lectionary? I would definately switch back to the NAB if the translations used in the Lectionary were offered to the faithful in their Bibles.
