I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, that when you cry out to God for help,it seems like things get worse. That’s happened to me over the past couple of days and I don’t understand it. It’s almost like you’re supposed to give up.Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Why would God want you to get even more discouraged? If anyone could please give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

That is one of the bestquestions I have seen here. I am going through the same thing. I have been dissappointed so many times that I am getting to where I want to go and get away from this world. I don’t know the answer and I think it is a great question to ask a really good priest one that has compassion not a priest that is in a hurry.

A list of common answers that to me don’t cut the mustard but maybe they should.
  1. Oh all in God’s time
  2. God is testing you
  3. God is testing your Faith
4.everything is according to God’s will.
  4. Satan is trying to get you away from God (that one is most likely the cause for most of our miseries)
  5. It isn’t from God only good can come from God.
You get the idea I am sure you have heard one of those answers. after a while of being in a desert you get sick and tired of answers like that. I know I am . also if life hands you lemons make lemonade Frankly I am sick and tired of lemonade. I want a real answer and I want results. I hear you. I know the feeling and I am battling the same thing. I don’t know what to say, sometimes I get comfort knowing that I am not the only one. or someone else is going through the samething… My answer I guess is or my beleif, I feel that God does test us, but I think he teaches us trust. the worse it gets the more he wants our trust. the more he asks for our trust the more he makes it difficult. Sometimes to make a beautiful piece of glass or pottery it needs to go through a series of firings in a kiln or with glass a multitude amount of gas torch heads to be formed in the way it’s master sees it or wants it to be. After the firings the pottery is glazed in all it’s glory, like us God puts us in a kiln of life and it is painful and if we are not forming exactly to his desire he may turn up the heat a little. The secret to me has been trust and know that he is in control. sometimes I look down at the water and lost all concentration and fall. There are times when I say &*()% it I quit I can go it any longer. I am there right now. I someday will write what happened and will post it a great lesson of faith. To me anyway God bless Scoob

I will give it may best shot but here it goes.

Things happen because we have free will on earth to accept the Lord or not. The Lord doesn’t orchestrate our lives like puppets nor does he manage everything that occurs in this life. We do since he gives the freedom to do so.

So good and bad happens to us. What he has given us is our path to salvation . It’s up to us and our freewill to follow him or not. So we need to remain faithful no matter what and suffer whatever crosses we have in this life. It’s not fair cause it seems some have lighter burdens than others or maybe not.

If we follow him heaven awaits us. Heaven is not this life but the life after death the life everlasting.

We can blame Adam and Eve for the loss of paradise in this life

I hope that helps some.

Free will often doesn’t play a part in our suffering. I’m bipolar. I suffer from severe depression. It isn’t a choice I made. And, as a direct reponse to the OP’s question, I have found that in my darkest moments I can’t find God anywhere. A real spiritual crisis, especially since my most severe depressive episodes have occurred when I was in a deeply spritual part of my life and was doing my best to follow what I discerned to be God’s will for my life.

And what about suffering children born into poverty? They didn’t chose that. There are countless examples where the “free will” on the part of the sufferer plays no part.

Tempted to give up? You betcha. I haven’t though. But I am rethinking my beliefs about the nature of God and life. 🤷

Free will I guess not in some cases but again paradise was lost in this world.

You seem to expect all things to be taken care of by God. You want guarantees but the Lord does not guarantee a perfect always happy life. If you are bipolar are there not drugs and treatment to help with that?? Sickness does happen life is not fair but we all need to struggle through it and keep picking ourselves up whether you believe or not what else can one do?

Poverty is another fact in this imperfect world through no fault of anyone.

Although I suspect no answer may satisfy you. I too get depressed but I try to get through it and get help when I need it.

We aren’t supposed to give up, but we are supposed to surrender everything to God. There is a difference. Giving up leads to despair, surrender leads to God.
Free will often doesn’t play a part in our suffering. I’m bipolar.
Free will always plays a part in our suffering - even inherited traits like bipolar disorder. But that doesn’t mean it is because of our own personal free will choice, but it could be because of the choice of others.

I hope you include the element of the necessity to trust God in your rethinking. It can be difficult at times to remain faithful in the midst of adversity no matter how much we trust God in our walk with Him - even if that adversity lasts many years.

The things YOU think are best for you aren’t necessarily the same things GOD thinks are best for you. Remember, you live in a physical world; he lives in a spiritual world.

Pretty well everything God sends you is a reward even if it feels like punishment at the time. The nicest and most spiritual people in the world are generally those who have encountered the greatest grief. In exchange for grief, God blesses people afterward with rewards of compassion, understanding, humour, and many other fantastic things that will permit them to advance to higher levels later and help other people do the same. Such gifts are hard to obtain in any other way. That’s what much of Jesus’s death was trying to exemplify.

Certainly there will be some who won’t appreciate or recognize such gifts but hopefully they will be few. You see, what you want from God now is temporary, but what he offers is permanent.

Even in the event of something as drastic as impending death, consider that God knows the minds of all of us. For example, the world may face a bleak future thanks to the selfishness of man and God may see that the dying person would “prefer” to check out before having to face what lies ahead. Such people may not be consciously aware of that because they can’t see into the future, but God can.

Remember, the body means nothing to God; only the soul is important. When the soul exits the body people immediately notice that what is left behind is just a container.

All of us will experience fear of death whether we are young or old, so in the event that people die early they don’t experience anthing different than those who die late. Once the soul has left this world, time will be irrelevant. Do you know what time is? It’s simply a period defined by man. After death the meaning is entirely different so whether people have died at age 20 or 70 won’t mean a thing to their souls.

God is not a magic button to push. God does things in His time, not ours. We see by Jesus’s passion that suffering is for a greater good. We are to follow in His footsteps, suffer our own crosses ,but have God the Father’s help to get us through it. We will not leave this earth without crosses.

Remember He is with us till the end of time and His reward is great for those who follow.

Blessings

I would like to share my experience with you.

I was raised a Catholic, but left it and was very involved in Protestantism. I went to seminary and was a minister in a small Baptist Church but while I was there it experienced real growth.

I was single at that time. But then I met a woman who was previously divorced. She told me that she divorced him because she cheated on him. That sounded to me to be a valid Biblical reason for the divorce. I asked to people who were in leadership positions in the church, people who were very close to me. They were very encouraging about it. So I pursued a relationship with this woman.

We then became engaged, and I was on cloud nine. After much hard work, I was ministering in a church that showed signs of growth and soon I would be married to the woman of my dreams. But as soon as we announced our engagement, the church did not like the idea of their pastor being married to a divorcee. Even the people who encouraged me to pursue the relationship changed their minds. I did want to stay in the church and fight over it. I thought that would cause a church split. So I decided just to leave. But I definitely felt betrayed from the people I was close to.

So then I went with my fiancee to my fiancee’s church. Her pastor really liked me, and he talked about me being their assistant pastor. I thought that God was closing one window and opening another. But I was wrong. My fiancee then broke off with me. And when her pastor found out, he withdraw his offer for me to be their assistant pastor (actually, I probably would not have felt comfortable with it, anyway)

I was completely devastated. Within the span of only three weeks I was forced out of the church I was pastoring and I lost my fiancee. It was like a bad soap opera. I could not believe it happened to me. Not only that, but I just knew that that this was the end of my ever being a minister again. It was very difficult for me to find that church I was pastoring in the first place - it took over 2 years (it is hard to find a Protestant church that will take chance on a single minister). I could not afford to wait another two years. But when a prospective church asks me why I left my church, what I could say? I just could not see another church accepting me after all this. To say the least, it showed that I lacked good judgement.

So my world was turned upside down. I lived back with my parents and went back to school to learn computers. But during that time, I battled with severe depression and thoughts of suicide. I was so depressed that I felt a constant physical heaviness on my heart. What is more, I could not pray or trust God anymore. That was the worst part. I had always felt very close to God. But now I felt God had let me down. I felt that the thing I feared the most had come upon me. And I remember all the things I was taught, about how all things work out for the good of those who love God, just seemed so trite to me at the time.

Well, I married another woman, and I did find a computer programming job. But for the next 20 years, I could not pray or trust in God. My wife and I then adopted two wonderful childgren from China. My wife and I were attending a Catholic church. We went to a Catholic church because my wife was Catholic. Also, a Protestant church brought too many painful memories to me.

Then, after twenty years, being coinvinced the the Eucharist was the actual body and blood of Christ received the Eucharist, and things changed. Firrst, I had an incredible urge to go to confession. Then I started to pray to God again. Then I was able to forgive those who had hurt me.

In looking back, in spite of the painful experience I had, where every day for about a year I actually thought of suicide, I can say that it was all worth it. If I had not left the pastorate, I would not have ever married the woman I did marry, who was a much better woman than my former fiance (how could a Protestant minister marry a Catholic?). If I never married whom I married, we would never had adopted those two children from China. Since these children were older children, it was possible that no one else would have adopted them. If my first fiancee had never broke up with me, I probably would have never joined the Catholic Church, which has been such a joy to me - both in this life and the life to come.

So, although it did seem the answers were trite when I was experiencing the suffering, the answers were right. All this DID work out for my good, after all.

I agree with what you say. But it isn’t easy to follow. It is hard when you see other people getting thier dreams and desires. I know a person that is young good looking and is living a dream I only wish I could. That makes me jealious but to rub salt in the wound this person is an athiest and living a lifestyle that isn’t pleasing to God from the Church’s teachings if you get my point. Yet me KNOWING not just beleiving but KNOWING he exists and I have nothing but trouble realizing my dream. No matter what people say it still psses me off to no end. I know it isn’t my business what other people get from God. but it’s God’s will and all that sometimes is not a good enough answer. There are times that I want more from God than just a no. I want a yes sometimes. I am having a little trouble lately accepting a no from God. I am never going to leave the church or disbeleive in God for it is too late for that I know he exists. Sometimes dissappointments are too much for me to deal and cope with. meanwhile this person that I am talking about can care less about God and is just happy as a honey bee in the summertime. He is buzzing around the barn and everyone is kissing his feet as to how wonderful he is. The Holy Ghost tells me to pray for him as penence for my jealiousy but I still don’t see my dreams being realized. anyway I am not going to beat this subject to death. been a rough year for me and I am alone no one to talk to so I am feeling alot of what the OP has described. I know the feeling of dispair and dissappointment. I am so sick of it that if Christ came to me and said take my hand and not look back come with me I am so so so so so so ready to go. plain and simple. Scoob.

Who knows the mind of God? Just request and leave it in God’s hands. Why isn’t He answering? I don’t have the mind of God so I can’t tell you. It’s a mystery only God will answer when you shuffle off this mortal coil.

A reason why this happens is because it is like a fish that just got hooked. It tags a little then a little more as you are, in saying that you want God more and more.
Then the fish tags stronger like you are telling God that you want Him. When God can see that you really mean what you are saying. (know what i mean?) then He will fulfill your prayers.

That could take time and will, but it is only because it is like using sand paper to rub off the rough edge of your humanness to become more like God.
When you realize that you havent got the strength, and tell God that like a little bird trying to go up a staircase but can’t and you yell out to God to help because you can’t go further ( become closer to God by yourself) then He will come. When He knows that you really mean what you are saying.

Godbless

I often felt about it a lot. When I saw my friends get their dreams but in my turn I wasn’t able to get any. I got angry with God twice. I mean really angry, I sat at the church and angry with Him, I asked so many questions even I said that why it happened to me but it was not my mistake. Somebody mistake but I should responsible. But after that there was a very little voice said “Did I do any mistake so I deserved to be crucified?” then I cried but felt peace.
So, please don’t give up and keep your faith strong. I still feel jealousy some time until now, but when I will think my journey in my life, so I can try to accept it and try to understand that my time isn’t there and God tells me to wait.
God bless

God cares about our body and soul. Everything God created is good. When things we experience in this life are not good, it can be easy to wonder why God permits the bad. It is important to understand however that God can make good out of bad if we allow Him to transform us.

2 and 3 are the best answers, I think, but they are half answers. The answer is God is testing you, and He will give you the grace to overcome.

It sounds like this person isn’t really living the dream then, is he? As a God-centred person, you are stronger than him, and are not living his overtly sinful lifestyle.

It is good that you have faith in God. This is His grace! These disappointments are not too much for you; you’re still here! Stay strong, and offer it up.
Peace.

well i believe its judgement day and i guess in revelations some will pray under the mountain for the mountain to fall on them and death will flea them. this is one time none of your cries would get better mabby if this might be the reason go to confession and hear everything the pastor has to say, and if this is the time mabby nothing in existence will give you hope. or mabby you can delete all those passages from billions of bibles and ask permission to do so, there are choices chear up.

It’s spiritual warfare. The evil one hears your cries to God as well. Satan wants you to give up, not God. Satan wants you to feel abandoned by God so that you will abandon God yourself. But God will never never abandon you. The only way to combat it is to cling to the Lord ever more tightly. Pray for your enemies, give thanks for your struggles. This is the only way to combat Satan. God does not want you to get discouraged, Satan does. You really must pray more, because you are under attack, and prayer is your only valuable weapon in these situations. Believe me, I know how hard that advice is. God sees your struggles though, and He is always with you, even when you feel He’s not there at all. Remind yourself often through the day that God is your Father, that you are precious to Him. Pray unceasingly! Pray for all people who suffer the same trials you are suffering now.

The following tract may be of some help to you. May God bless you in your struggles.

first thing first one of two parts remember suicide victems dont go to heven and take your thorn out of your eye before it leads to suicide posting above your means to help someone CAUSES CONCERN

Thanks to everybody for all your advice and encouragement. I was thinking about what BeeSweet said regarding spiritual warfare. I had started saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for this problem and was on the third day when this incident happened. I stopped saying it on that day because I felt so upset. I think I had better start over and start saying it again.

Sometimes, it seems as if our problems get worse after we ask God for help.

For instance, if you pray for patience because you are having trouble coping, instead of having things settle down and not provoke you, you find that there are a million more things that provoke you out of patience. This is God giving you more opportunities to practise being patient.

Sometimes, it is hard to recognise the answer to our prayers. Our wisdom wants one thing, but God’s Wisdom gives us what we need, even if it is very painful for us and not what we wanted at all. Try to see the opportunities that God is giving you in your circumstances.

These verses have sustained me in times of trial, when my whole world seemed to be falling apart.
Romans 8:28,35,38
“We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who have been called according to his decree. <…> Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Trial or distress, or persecution, or hunger, or nakedness, or danger, or the sword? <…> For I am certain that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor powers, neither height nor depth nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God that comes to us in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
