When you pray do you ever expect a confirmation ? Or an answer ?
Or do you ever get a “release” to stop?

It depends how old you are. 😎

It took a long time for me to learn that prayers are answered in a wide variety of ways, but that all are heard. For those of us on this planet, most prayer would seem to be answered with a no, or not yet. But even if that were true it would not mean we ought to cease. Prayer is for our benefit. We can ask for intercession and sometimes get it. Most often, though, life circumstances are planned to help us achieve spiritual growth and a deepening attachment to God and need not be tampered with. Even what may seem a horrible situation or illness is permitted because, without that experience, some people would not get to where they need to go.

There is an interview with Sister Joan Noreen, found here;
where she speaks of a Father Alfred Delp. He was a Jesuit priest, imprisoned and eventually hanged by the Nazies during the latter stages of WWII. What interested Sister Joan was that the circumstances of Fathers captivity and ultimate death were exactly what he needed to finally overcome what he himself admitted was his greatest road block to God; his ego. She described him as a very in-charge, arrogant personality. The host of the program, Doug Keck, put it best, that this was the cross he had to bear, not as a punishment for sinfulness, but as an opportunity to defeat his own ego.

Naturally, his former parishioners would have been praying fervently for his eventual release. But there was a reason their prayers were not answered in the way they had hoped or expected. I now gear my prayers, not for someone’s or my own deliverance from a bad situation, but for the strength and wisdom to see it through and learn the lesson intended.

When you do get an answer, you go crazy trying to interpret it. 🙂

So once you’re tired of going crazy trying to figure out what God is telling you, you learn to adjust your prayers accordingly. Rather than asking for (name removed by moderator)ut on one course of action versus another, you ask for the grace to do God’s will. “Dear God, it’s in your hands-- you know I can’t do this very well with my own power-- please bless my endeavour, and learn and grow in the way you want me to, and thy will be done–” etc, etc, etc.

I believe i am yet to see any answers to my years of prayer. Maybe i just dont deserve help.

Depends on the prayer.
Yes many of them are answered in time, though seldom or never how I expect.
I don’t really understand your bit about a release to stop… Are you asking about praying unceasingly? if so look up Fr Mike Schmidt’s take on it on youtube. Otherwise, I pray formal prayers until their end and my informal prayers I just chat away all the time on and off. For me it’s more that I am called to start than to stop… I’ve no idea what makes me stop, I guess needing to eat, sleep etc.

I’m that guy who says if you pray for rain, carry an umbrella. I do expect confirmations, and most of time I receive them. Even when I don’t, I consider that a confirmation of a type.

I pray without expectations. I do not put conditions on God. He answers in His way, in His time.

Sometimes the answers to our prayers arn’t clear to us,they might be answered in a way that has a much bigger over all effect that is of spiritual help to us or those were praying for .When I pray I will often ask Our Lady to place my prayers where they are needed the most,as being my mother she knows what is best .

I expect Him to speak to me if I pray for something small, like if I ask him where to eat dinner. However, if it’s something big, like a healing, I don’t expect Him to respond. I do expect Him to act, but He’s under no obligation to tell me how or when He’s going to answer it.

I expect my prayers to be heard. Sometimes I see them answered.
Not always in the way I expected or wanted. God is smarter than I am 😁 and knows better what’s good for me. 😃
