When you say a rosary?

It’s different all the time. Sometimes I get swept away by the mysteries and am lost to time and other times time goes fairly fast, but usually it takes at least half an hour. I think it’s very different when I am alone or in church with others. Yes my mind goes other places, sometimes it is distractions and I gently pull my mind back to the task at hand and other times I feel I am directed or shown something. It can take some practice knowing which is which. If I feel the distractions are all mine then I may read the passages in the scriptures to help focus me. I do sometimes say the rosary whilst travelling somewhere or in public places but this took a lot of practice and when I am distracted here I include people or those distractions in my prayers but may stop and continue later if need be. I do this to work on my patience and tolerance as I live in a noisy boarding house type place. I got these ideas and practices from various saints so it isn’t my idea but it is working.

There are recordings of the Rosary that I listen to. Fr. John Riccardo of Michigan gives a small homily to introduce each mystery.

I use the recordings as a guide to focus my thoughts. but, my thoughts easily drift away. It doesn’t seem to get any better as time goes by.

Sometimes the distractions are quite selective, such as I don’t recall saying the Lord’s prayer once in a while. That’s the amount of time a distraction may last before I pull back to the moment.

the recordings relieve me of the “burden” of thinking or saying the words, myself. So, I try to focus on their meaning. The rosary is not a “recitation” of prayers to me. But, almost any recording from the radio, internet, or TV seems to be a hasty recitation.

How can I recite the profound words *** Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.*** ?

As these words zip by in the recording, I at try to make sure I am at least conscious of them as they run by me.

For years in Catholic grade school, I was never aware of the “mysteries” of the Rosary. I just said the prayers.

The “Glory be” is a very important prayer to me, to focus my attention on God and to celebrate the mystery / revelation of that decade of the rosary.

As to “when” I say the rosary, it usually turns out to be around 10 p.m.

When I say “us” in the prayers, I am thinking about all the people in the world - pray for us sinners – yes, all of us, nobody left out.

For the decade of the Joyful mysteries, the finding of Jesus in the Temple, I am especially praying for all the lost and abused and exploited children in the world.

When you say a rosary does the time go fast or slow ? And you get different thoughts?

I said it in French last I said it. French is not my 1st language so it went slow but gave me more time to meditate.
