When your job/projects conflict with the teaching of the catholic church

Hi,

I was just wondering if I would be doing something wrong by creating a dating website that allowed people of the same sex to communicate. I am a partner in a venture with 3 other friends.

So far I have developed the dating site without that option available. You can only send messages to the other gender. unlike many of the other sites out there.

This web site is going to be very big soon and I know we are going to make some of the activists upset. 🙂

Regardless, if the other partners want that kind of site for the money what should I do? Should I refuse to work on it and stay true to what I believe in? Would it be a sin to make that option available? Am I right to asume that these people have already made the choice to reject God and I would therefore not be at fault? At the same time I feel as if I would be digging a hole for someone to fall in.

Anyway your thoughts would be appreciated.

P.S. The good news is that I will most likely make cahtolic version of it soon.
 
Your conscience is clearly troubling you about facilitating same-sex dating, so there is your answer! I encourage you to work on the Catholic version in case this leads to a falling-out with your business partners.

It would be like being an accomplice every time your site helped someone sin.
 
I had a situation a few years ago where I was asked as part of my duties to head a committee in helping to pass pro-abortion legislation. I told my supervisor I could not do that as it went against everything I believed in (totally expecting I could be fired) and they respected my wishes.

You gotta follow your moral code and the teachings of the Church, no matter where it may lead. To do otherwise may lead to serious eternal consequences.
 
Such a website has potential to encourage lust and sexual activity. I do not see where any good can come of it. I think Satan may be working on trying to pull you and others away from faith. Be careful!

Definitely a sin. Dont do it. Stand up for your beliefs. How would you explain to Jesus that you helped millions of people commit one of the four sins that “cries to heaven for vengence”?
 
ok i’ve made up my mind.

I’m going to tell them that I don’t belive in that sort of thing and if they want that kind of site they can hire someone else. I’m also going to tell them that they can keep the profits from it too.

I often wonder how a pharmaceutical rep handles this when their product line includes contraception and abortifacients.

I met a priest who used to be a surgeon that told me a story of a pharmaceutical rep who refused to sell such a drug. It went to court and the pharmaceutical rep won.

As for myself, I would refuse to sell such a drug.

This is not the same, but my manager asked all of us to contribute $5 to MS Society and we would be granted the priviledge of wearing jeans on one particular Friday. I e-mailed him back that I could not contribute to the MS Society because of its support of embryonic stem cell research. He e-mailed me an apology for offending me.

YES, friend, do not bend to the world. I do question this whole thing of yours, a dating circuit to begin with. What type of job is this? It seems to me to be a sketchy, wordly and perhaps not so good of a venture here kev7 to begin with. Pray that God will lead you to a much better use of your time.

A dating service can be a very worthwhile endeavor, as long as it’s not marketed for the “one night stand,” but for “finding your lifelong partner.” Is a computer manufacturer at fault if a person uses the computer to download porn? Is a college librarian at fault if someone checks out Playboy?

Secular jobs are just as valid and valuable as spiritual ones. Jesus was a carpenter! Do you think he only made furniture for the temple? He was certainly not at fault if someone comitted adultery on a bed he made.

You are correct. My purpose is not to be rich. My purpose is to simply make enough money so that I can suport a family with ease.

As you know it is very hard to suport a family in todays world. If I chose to marry then I will need to work hard inorder to provide for my wife and childern.

I also think that it is important to use the gifts and talents that you have to your fullest. If those talents lead to financial success then maybe God wants that for you. There are many people who need help in the world and there are also people who are in a position to help them.

I know how some handle it. They compromise their faith and it effects the family.

Yes this dating site is for worthwhile relationships and not one night stands. It could be used that way but it is not marketed that way. It is targeted toward ethnic communities. I think ethnic groups will be pleased that it doesn’t support homosexuals. Most of their religions don’t anyway.
