I’m not blaming God for the tens of thousands of children that die everyday…I correlate the belief that God is responsible for you having come across some extra cash, as the same as a professional athlete believing that God is responsible for their big win…as if God is rewarding one athlete and punishing the other athlete in a teams win or loss.

With all the problems in the world, I find it very difficult to believe that God fixes sporting events for multi-million dollar athletes.

Let’s be honest, the OP is praising God for the extra money that came as a result of her realizing that she made an error in calculating her maternity benefits.

How can one possibly attribute the extra wealth she is getting on God’s decision to intervene. If she was an atheist, the maternity benefit would be the same!

Okay, I’m sorry, I seem to have misunderstood your first post. Your second post made me smile - I don’t think God is fixing sporting events either, but there’s no harm in thanking Him for the unexpected blessings or successes in our lives. For an athlete, there are many things that could have gone wrong. If those things don’t go wrong, why not thank God for that? Obviously, hard work was the main thing that led to the athlete’s success, but luck plays a role too, and luck is under God’s control.

As for the OP’s calculation error, I can understand her position. It’s not so much about the calculation error or the money, it’s about the fear and the relief at that fear being unnecessary. She based her budget on incomplete information (as we all do, not being God) and was worried because the budget suggested she wouldn’t have enough for emergencies. Then she found more information that suggested that the money to support her family would be there after all. God is good, she didn’t need to worry after all. I think the feeling she was expressing was that when we worry about something and then find more information about it, that information tends to show us that God loves us and wants us to succeed.
