I don’t think I made the right decision on what college to attend. I prayed about my college decision a lot last year, but I gave up when I decided what I thought was right. The main reason I think that it’s not meant for me to be here is that I’m not happy…sure I tell everyone around me not to worry, but I’m just not happy. I don’t wake up each day happy to just be me like when I was in high school…if I was following God’s plan, wouldn’t I be content? Wouldn’t it just feel right? It doesn’t feel right here. I’m not comfortable. I’m not at peace. My parents haven’t been picking up on the subtle hints I’m giving them about it, so I’m just going to have to tell them plainly that I’m not happy here.

Advice?

Yes. Wait until the end of the semester to make a decision. You may indeed be doing the Lord’s will, but let’s face it, you are far from home and you’ve had a huge change in your life by moving so far away (Colorado, isn’t it)? You need to give yourself lots of time to get acclimated and find your “nitch” there.

What is the college like? Is it a a big campus or a smaller one? Have you found friends that you’re comfortable with? All of this takes time, believe me. My first year of college I went through 3 room mates before I found someone I was compatable with. I had to get to know a lot of people before I found a group that I liked and shared similar values and interests (we were all into Tolkien, and went hunting dragons on campus :o ).

I agree…take your time and let yourself have an opportunity to adjust. Also try to explore the things that are unsettling to you. Perhaps making some good friends on campus will also help.

I will pray for you.

“The secret of life is not to do things you like but to like the things you have to do.”
When I was in your age, I took this saying as one of my motto and it helped a lot.

Everything takes time and efforts. It takes time and efforts to make friends and especially good friends. You said you have prayed a lot about your college decision. You probably made the right choice. Even not, God can always turn things around, but he needs your cooperation.

Put your campus life in God’s hands, keep it in your prayer. Pray for new friends, pray for God’s blessings, pray for patience and God’s grace. And like other posters said - explore, and reach out. Study well, and participate in different activities.

God bless!

no, following God’s plan for you does not necessarily make you happy.

if you are not happy where you are now, you are not going to be happy at another school, at home, dropping out and working.

happiness lies within and is rooted in your relationship with God, and when that is healthy, your relationship with others–which will always be disfunctionaly until your relationship with God is right.

put your prayer life first, especially of course Mass and the sacraments. work on sinful or spiritually damaging habits, with the help of prayer, fasting and charity.
work on time management, get up and go to bed at reasonable hours, eat right, drink lots of water, exercise, go to class, study, go to your job if you have one and work to the best of your ability. Make friends. if you have trouble making friends, find someone who needs a friend and be one. Do random acts of kindness. Smile, be a person other people are happy to be around. Serve. Serve. Serve. Find ways, especially little, unseen unappreciated ways to serve.

My suggestion is to stay a while longer and give yourself more time to get used to the idea of being on your own. Oh… and I have one more suggestion. If the Campus has FOCUS JOIN!!! F.O.C.U.S. stands for Fellowship Of Catholic University Students. They are a great support for many students.
