Let’s calibrate our semantics. No doubt most of us would agree that there are some that are baptised who are in hell. But do you think there are any “Christians” in hell? Is this an oxymoron?
From the evangelical Protestant understanding of the word, no. From the Catholic understanding, yes.

Wasn’t this addressed at the Council of Trent? Can somebody with a better understanding of that council than me address this question?

As I understand it, the teaching of the Church is that everyone in Hell (along with everyone in Heaven) is Catholic. If they were not so during their lives, they became so at death, when all Truth was revealed to them. Some were baptized, and others not, but they will all know the Truth.
Interesting - I learned something here. I’d love to see this in the CCC but it does make perfect sense that everyone must know the full truth to be judged. So by definition everyone is either a good Catholic or a bad Catholic - obedient to the universal truth or rejecting of the universal truth. Also, from a perspective of Lordship and Divine Sovereignty it makes perfect sense that all must be subordinately related to Christ - either as friend or as enemy under one universal standard of objective truth - which is Christ Himself - the head of The Catholic Church.

Good stuff. 👍
