St. Louis, MO is a great city to be Catholic!
I mean, cāmon, JP II visited us (because of our former archbishop, now Cardinal Rigali) AND we have Archbishop Burke, a good and faithful orthodox leader.
We have the most Catholic high schools that Iāve ever heard of in one city, especially of our size-- at least 20, probably more than 25, in the city and vicinity. Some are, of course, better than others, but there are both single-sex and co-ed of all sizes and levels of academic rigor. The Legionaries of Christ opened a school around the year 2000, which is really just beginning to flourish.
Iād say most people in the suburbs go to/went to Catholic high schoolāthe typical question among St. Louis adults is āWhere did you go to high school?ā, before even āWhat do you do for a living?ā or asking about family. Itās kind of strange, but we like it
St. Louis itself is a big small town, it just has that feeling to it. Itās a midwestern thingāfriendly people, good communities, good climate. AND weāre the best baseball fans in America (go Cards!)
Iād encourage you to look into St. Louis. Missouri can put people off, but St. Louis is really quite different from the rest of the state (as is Kansas City), more midwestern than southern if that makes sense. My family actually is not native to St. Louis, we moved when I was in grade school and just really love it. When my dad was forced to take a job in Texas, it was quite the culture shockāand we came back as fast as we could!
