Where Are the Catholics that Actually Practice NFP?

We used to be a couple like that until very recently. Now my wife is pregnant so we are not practicing this right now…

As for after the pregnancy, this teaching is causing us so much heartache and stress that my wife has cried herself to sleep every night for the last week.

I am single. 😛

Isn’t celibacy natural?
 
My dh and I are practicing again. 👋 (And we plan to take a class, but I still have not had luck finding a dr or someone who teaches this)😦

Where do you live? (general city/state area, I don’t need your exact address) I may be able to help you find a certified NPP instructor couple. PM me with your general location, if you don’t want to post publicly
 
I think the faithful Catholics who follow the church’s guidelines are just quieter than some who oppose the Church’s teachings. I am sorry your wife has to deal with women who are like that. It is very hard to deal with at times (BTDT). It sounds like your wife needs to start surrounding herself with women that will encourage faithfulness rather than tempt her into sin. Shame on those women, perhaps that don’t know what they are doing…😦 Now that I have a group of women friends who are open to the Gift of Life (ie: NFP’ers) it is much easier to live my “alternative lifestyle” of having a “large” family.

BTW, we are “sometimes” practicing NFP Catholics (we use it only to avoid if we have a grave reason, other wise we are rather providential 😉 ) We are expecting baby #8 and are thrilled. We lost one in a m/c sometime ago and it has helped us realize that we need a very grave reason to avoid the chance to bring a new soul into this world and hopefully into heaven one day. Kudos to you and your wife for being a part of a beautiful gift of God. Six new souls to adorn Heaven someday!! Without your openess to God’s gift of life, our world would be that much more empty. My wife and I (age 24) and all of our married friends (20’s) do not contracept, but then again we went to Franciscan University of Steubenville.

I have a couple friends going to Steubenville right now. One working on her bachelors and one working on her masters.

This is an excellent example of the profound crisis of faith that we’re living through. Many Catholics have fallen for a secularized-liberalism and have lost the sense of obedience and submission to Christ.

I agree with the following post that refered to you as “martyrs” of the sort that suffers persecution for following God’s will.

We’re called to be that kind of witness – and it is indeed painful and difficult. Sadly, our Catholic leaders very often do not teach or affirm the truth clearly or strongly enough – and many of our fellow Catholics are basically apostate, even though they might attend Mass. It’s a shame. There will be a big price to pay for those who were Confirmed in the faith of Christ, but who never wanted to follow Him. It’s sad to say and think this, but Our Lord called us to a narrow path.

I hope you will find good support among faithful Catholic friends.

The NFP Organization with which I am most familiar is the Couple to Couple League. They teach the sympto-thermal method, which uses basal body temperature and other physical signs in the woman to track her fertility. The method is effective both for delaying and achieving pregnancy, depending on how the fertile times are used.

NFP instructors for the Couple to Couple league are not typically doctors, but other couples who use this method (hence the League’s name), and who have become certified to teach it. According to the CCL website, the local teaching couple in location] is:

Couple’s names,
city, state,
telephone, e-mail,
local CCL chapter, diocese,
languages instructors speak]

The complete list of CCL teaching couples may be found here.

While the CCL recommends the sympto-thermal method, other NFP methods also exist that your local teaching couple may be familiar with, and they may be able to direct you to other NFP resources in your area.

There is also an NFP home study course available on the CCL website.

My wife and I can attest to the effectiveness of this method when used correctly, and we know several other couples who have successfully used this method both to postpone and achieve pregnancies.

We learned NFP and sort of practice it but really stink at it, LOL. Anyway - many years ago we were the “we’re done at three kids” types but through God’s mercy learned about NFP before it was too late. Now we are expecting our eighth child and couldn’t be happier. Don’t listen to the world. We get a ton of flack, even from Catholics. We are blessed to be in a Catholic homeschool group where everyone we know practices NFP.
