Where are the humanitarian values within capitalism?

The Catholic Church condemns radical materialism: both laissez-faire, no holds barred, anything goes Capitalism; and Communism. (Karl Marx said there is no difference between Socialism and Communism so ponder that.) Both of these forms of radical materialism are combined in today’s China. Job one is to stop buying Chinese junk.

The Church has, throughout history, been a singular economic engine co-existent with her unitive transmission of the Gospel and faith praxis. This includes the Church’s organization and preservation of social networks; creating means of community-wide and trans-national communication and literacy; and building compounds that helped to fend off marauders. Monks rebuilt and spread agricultural practice and technology that collapsed after the fall of Rome. The Industrial Revolution was virtually started by Cistercians at Fontenay Abbey of St. Bernard’s founding in the Burgundy region of France by reviving the lost art of metallurgy, and devising a water-powered trip hammer to delink production from the hammer swing of a blacksmith.

The Jesuits and Franciscans brought missions that raised the dignity of the locals, taught trades and imparted literacy, and encouraged economic self-determination and freedom from pillaging. The Crusades or various incarnations thereto were generally spurred as much by the Muslim incursion into once-Christian trade routes as piety. The Battle of Lepanto was the turning point in recapturing sea dominance over the Ottoman Empire that enslaved Christians, pirated goods, and threatened Europe as a whole. Equity courts–fairness apart from written particulars of the law–and freedoms under the Magna Carta provided a balance to secular authority. Functions of socio-economic stabilization initiated by the Church were adopted by secular society.

This is not the case with laissez-faire “no rules” Capitalism and Communism, which were spawned without the principle of the overriding dignity of man made in God’s image and equality of souls. “The love of money is the root of all evil.” It is wildly naive to suggest any economic venture that is uprooted from God’s law of love of neighbor as linked to love of self for the love of God can be anything but toxic. There is no “humanitarianism” in any economic system delinked from God and it becomes the humanism, man as the highest measure of good, that led to the greatest genocide in human history, that of atheistic humanism of the twentieth century and following with the modern embrace of the soft genocide of abortion and depopulation promoted by national and world governments united with business tycoons like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, a fascist paradigm.

Tithing, the use of donated money, land and services to support Church functions and charities, has diminished mightily. Reviving this arm of Church influence demands that the Church itself be transparent and highly accountable as recent revelations show that groups antithetical to Church teaching are being funded. Accountability has been rare with 3 billion in hush-money to victims of clerical predation without any open oversight.

America is now a fascist country with the seizing of lands from poor African-Americans in Florida by the Democrat-led government through eminent domain only to pass it on to private development; this being approved by Supreme Court liberals. Fascism is the unholy bond between government and business versus the people. That means the Church must be neutralized as being a bulwark against such imbalance. This has played out in the viciously punitive enforcement of taxpayer-funded abortion and sterilization via government-mandated “health” insurance.

This is the administration that saw fit to give 70 billion to investment bankers whose deadly derivative market is still unregulated while withholding 7 billion of budgeted foreclosure aid to the poor in the “Hardest Hit” mortgage market. That’s government allied with business against the people who will then be expected to bail out any further gambling losses if the past is prologue. The “humanitarian” aid comes in the form of record food stamp disbursement to soften the inhuman economic enslavement of people knocked off the ladder of success in loss of equity and homes and job loss to radical materialist China.

May the Infant King of Kings stop the slaughter of innocents. May the Son of God raise the dignity of man by cleansing and renewing the Body of Christ and banish our self-indulgent self-destruction. May the Lord of Lords work out His plans to “prosper us and not to harm us” swiftly with His elegant solutions. Holy Angels and Saints of God, thank and praise the Most High for us and grant peace on Earth to men of good will. AMEN

There is no dogma on this issue. Catholics can in good conscience be defenders of free markets. I’m not as sure about Communism since it denies the individual completely.

What? Why? Are cheap goods making our lives worse??

Absolutely false, since the concept for free trade originated with the School of Salamanca. This school helped lay the foundation for Just War Theory and free markets.

That probably has to do with the exorbitant taxes that people are taking and how expensive it is to live in this country.

Yes, this country is fascist, yet we get called loons for pointing out the truth.

And the reason we are losing jobs to China is minimum wage, lack of free trade, high corporate taxes, and excessive regulations.

There are about twenty thousand parents who think the same as you do, and they will see their child starve to death TODAY at Christmas. Tomorrow another twenty thousand parents will see their child starve to death.

The Bible has much to say about poverty, Scholars have taken the trouble to go through the Bible and highlight all the passages that refer to justice for the poor, oppressed, refugees, widows and orphans

Using the clear Contemporary English Version (CEV) text, it highlights more than 2,000 verses that spell out God’s attitude to poverty and justice, they have called it ‘The Poverty and Justice Bible’
hpovertyandjusticebible.org/news.php?NEWS_ID=29
The poverty and justice “bible” is book with cherry-picked verses that excludes a lot of god given information. I wouldn’t support that.

Ah… Did you just say Social Justice? Reaaaaaaaaallllllllly? From Government!?!? Hardly likely I should think. Unless you are talking about an Ideal Catholic Theocracy…
.
Government is Godless. Government is Secular Socialism. Translated into Abortion, Euthanasia, Contraception, the
works.:bigyikes:

Then
of course one* has* to talk about paying for the ‘middle man.’ And his wife and kids and his brother to dispense* my* tax dollar for me to fit their (which certainly is not my definition) definition of Government …er …uh…compassion.

No.
Do **not **
Perhaps what you do would work without any need for the Government of a democracy to have to take care of the social justice work and common good and need of all their people, yes perhaps, if all Christianity would take on the full responsibility of all social justice needs out of the true goodness of their hearts there would be no need for a government to be burdened with the distribution of taxes to the old, the handicapped, the wounded warriors of a decade of continuing senseless war and on and on Mr Independent.
What is given through Christian and other charity is simply not enough as it is presently given.
In my opinion what is needed is a balanced Government…Capitolisim(free enterprise) and socialism, COMMON SENSE in all things, BALANCE.
We Pray! Peace, Carlan

Many religions have criticized or opposed specific elements of capitalism. Traditional Judaism, Christianity, and Islam forbid lending money at interest, although alternative methods of banking have been developed. Some Christians have criticized capitalism for its materialist aspects and its inability to account for the wellbeing of all people. Many of Jesus’s parables deal with clearly economic concerns: farming, shepherding, being in debt, doing hard labor, being excluded from banquets and the houses of the rich, and have implications for wealth and power distribution.

The ‘Poverty and Justice Bible’ is a complete Bible so it does not exclude any information; scholars have simply taken a highlighter pen to all the passages that refer to justice and poverty. If they can find around two thousand passages, that must make poverty and justice a major concern to God.

Blessings

Eric

…oh. 😊

I suppose I do support it then.

Bolding Mine:

Oh goooood grief.Ok. I reiterate. Government is Godless. Let me say again. Godless. That means:** without** God.*** No*** government is going to be ‘compassionate.’, Capitalist **or **Socialist.

Chirstians indeed are going to be your best bet. Christians can indeed be compassionate. Have you ever noticed just how many Hospitals are named after …ahem…Saints?
Have you *ever *seen a Hospital named after Hillary Clinton? 🤷

We now** have** Socialism inflicted on America. And just what is it exactly, that we have? Riddle me *this *one - eh? What we now have is a brand of Socialism that promotes, advocates and lobbies for …wait for it… Partial Birth Abortion! :bigyikes: Contraception. Gay Marriage. Abortion without Parents even being informed that their underage child is having a major medical proceedure perpetrated on them. One that will affect them for the rest of their lives and also affect their very soul. Then there is the issue of Abortion itself. Oh! BTW, did I mention that said Socialist Government has declared war on the Church? War by stripping Holy Mother Church of Conscience via the HHS mandate? Was this… uh …not so minor technicality … uh… overlooked? A Godless government can not produce Godly compassion. How tuff is this? :banghead:

Did I mention that the above listed issues are cough cough Godless? That they are against God? How can this be, you ask? Hmmmmmmmmmm… *Maybe *because Government is Godless? Ya think? :dancing::bluelite:

I have seen your Socialism. I have seen this so called ‘compassion’ of Socialism. It is lies. Period. Evil *never *comes to one and says “Hi! I am evil and I’m here to destroy you and your country.” No. Evil always comes disguised as ‘Sons of Light.’ As your best friend. Evil comes hidden in false promises of compassion. It is when it is perhaps too late that evil will, in it’s typically over confident manner, reveal and **parade **itself… (Pssst… look at today’s headlines for verification of what was just said)

I categorically and unequivocably reject this pernicious and evil fallacy of Godless Government being compassionate. Period. What a joke! I brook* no* debate. Those that oppose this concept I have delineated will either understand this or they will not. It is upon their heads and mine, to answer for one’s convictions. I am quite confident of my convictions…

When God is invited back into Government, maybe then I will listen…

So. Instead of talking about Government Systems as the answer… let us rather discuss things like… oh … I don’t know… maybe Faith Based Initiatives? Let us talk rather about taking our** money **back **and putting it into Our Holy Mother Church!:bounce:

Capitalism gives people the freedom and opportunity to work for themselves and reap what they sow, whilst benefiting themselves and whoever else they choose to give those benefits to.

People talk about the first Christians being communists, and thus that a socialist form of government is best, yet if one actually pays attention to the composition of the verses that suggest these things, he’ll actually find that the ancient Christians basically practised capitalism “with a heart”, or in other words, a perfect form of government.

But why is capitalism not working? People get greedy and hoard all the money for themselves. One must look at the type of values that is being promoted through a given economic system. We need to be humanitarian, first and foremost, and these values are missing in our society!

Look at the low morale in our society. Something is amiss. Apathy flourishes! Violence flourishes. We need to practice loving our neighbor.

Socialist countries have populations that starve to death… Capitalist nations do not. Yet at the same time, Capitalist nations send millions of dollars and food to socialist nations. Socialist nations send nothing to Capitalist nations.

…so how can anyone say that Capitalist societies are not humanitarian when it is actually the majority of socialist societies that are not? 🤷

Because the United States is currently fascist.

Fascism is a form of radical authoritarian nationalism. Fascists seek to unify their nation through a totalitarian state that seeks the mass mobilization of the national community through discipline, indoctrination, and physical training. Fascism utilizes a vanguard party to initiate a revolution to organize the nation upon fascist principles. Fascism views direct action including political violence and war, as a means to achieve national rejuvenation, spirit and vitality.

Fascism recognizes the occurrence of class conflict, and advocates a resolution to end the division of classes within a nation and secure national solidarity. However, fascism publicly favours proletarian culture, while it rejects bourgeois culture, and claims that the cultural nationalization of society emancipates the nation’s proletariat, and promotes the assimilation of all classes into a proletarian nation.

Fascism advocates a state-controlled and regulated mixed economy; the principal economic goal of fascism is to achieve autarky to secure national self-sufficiency and independence, through protectionist and interventionist economic policies. It promotes regulated private enterprise and private property contingent whenever beneficial to the nation and state enterprise and state property whenever necessary to protect its interests.

Fascism was founded during World War I by Italian national syndicalists who combined left-wing and right-wing political views. Fascists have commonly opposed having a firm association with any section of the left-right spectrum, considering it inadequate to describe their beliefs, though fascism’s goal to promote the rule of people deemed innately superior while seeking to purge society of people deemed innately inferior is identified as a prominent far-right theme. Fascism opposes multiple ideologies, such as communism, conservatism, liberalism, and social democracy.

As long as there is starvation, war, and grief in the world, humanitarianism is not being effective. Also, capitalistic nations tend to be richer, so they can afford some aid. What would it take to end world hunger and get people to fend for themselves?.

I’m bad in economics and politics so I would appreciate it if you could name a few socialist nations that have populations starving to death? Likewise, name some socialistic societies that receive aid from the capitalistic ones? Let us not talk about dictatorships, corruption or war-torn nations.

Capitalism encourages greed; I am not sure that nations have any laws that say you can’t be greedy. Take Apple, it subcontracts half a million Chinese worker for 50 cents an hour, consumers pay over the odds for their products, and the directors earn billions for exploiting both its workers and consumers. Capitalism calls that good, but how can we encourage a system that goes against the greatest commandments?

Capitalism. Socialism. Marxism. Communism.

Systems of Government. All fail to deal with the elephant in the room.

Man is fundamentally flawed in his character. It is called sin. Ergo all systems of Government is doomed to fail, ultimately, for a variety of reasons.

The issue of man’s nature needs to be addressed first.

We* have* a solution. Odd that I have to type this on Christmas day.

***This vanguard consists of the New Black Panther Party wielding billy clubs at polling places to intimidate voters. This vanguard consists of the drug gangs who received grants of thousands of weapons from the Treasury’s ATF in “Fast & Furious” as funneled to Mexico; and related programs in the USA targeting such places as Tampa, Florida. This vanguard consists of the drug cartels given cash grants via Treasury’s IRS lifting of controls on fraudulent refunds to transfer billions of dollars to this administration’s diabolicial allies. ***

***The American middle class has been taxed and manipulated into extinction, mansions and cottages stand empty, and the stock market has eradicated retirement plans for the vast majority. Are we emancipated from all our assets yet? ***

***There is no “national” self-sufficiency and independence without individual self-sufficiency and independence, and that ain’t food stamps and infinitely inflated currency. There is no free market when derivatives gamblers are free to win and keep their booty; lose and taxpayers pay; but it is “protectionist” in the worst way. ***

***Elitism is in direct contravention to election, God’s choice of a fisherman or shepherd over the educated Judas’. This movement’s self-styled experts seem to be those willing to reinforce forcing higher taxation on the semi-rich and rich. This should create the same flight of wealth and greater vulnerability of the “proletariat” the Brits recently experienced in higher taxes on millionaires, who swiftly evaporated. ***
