I have heard that the Quran says that

a) It was Isaac sacrificed, whereas Muslims say it was Ishmael, and

b) That Muhammad was to go to the People of the Book to see whether this was a revelation of Allah or not.

Where are these verses?

  1. It’s in surah 37:101-109. It’s Islamic tradition tha the son is Ishmael.
  2. I don’t know.

Actually there is no direct quote in Quran which says so, however, the authentic Islamic commentators for (Quran 37:101-105) are the ones who interpreted he was Ishmael.
b) That Muhammad was to go to the People of the Book to see whether this was a revelation of Allah or not.
I think you mean (Quran 10:94), yes its mentioned there:
YUSUFALI: If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt.
PICKTHAL: And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee. Verily the Truth from thy Lord hath come unto thee. So be not thou of the waverers.
SHAKIR: But if you are in doubt as to what We have revealed to you, ask those who read the Book before you; certainly the truth has come to you from your Lord, therefore you should not be of the disputers.

b ) (Surat 10:94).
94 - so ,If thou wert in doubt as to what we have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the book from before thee: the truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt.

nonmuslims usually separate this verse from the previous verses which talking about the story which talking about muasa (pbuh) and farouh

**75-Then after them We sent Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron) to Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs with Our Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). But they behaved arrogantly and were Mujrimun (disbelievers, sinners, polytheists, criminals) folk.

76-So when came to them the truth from Us, they said: “This is indeed clear magic.”

77-Musa (Moses) said: “Say you (this) about the truth when it has come to you? Is this magic? But the magicians will never be successful.”

78-They said: “Have you come to us to turn us away from that (Faith) we found our fathers following, and that you two may have greatness in the land? We are not going to believe you two!”

79-And Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said: “Bring me every well-versed sorcerer.”

80-And when the sorcerers came, Musa (Moses) said to them: “Cast down what you want to cast!”

81-Then when they had cast down, Musa (Moses) said: "What you have brought is sorcery; Allah will surely make it of no effect. Verily, Allah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidun (the evil-doers, corrupters).

82-“And Allah will establish and make apparent the truth by His Words, however much the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners) may hate it.”

83-But none believed in Musa (Moses) except the offspring of his people, because of the fear of Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and verily, Fir’aun (Pharaoh) was an arrogant tyrant on the earth, he was indeed one of the Musrifun (polytheists, sinners and transgressors, those who give up the truth and follow the evil, and commit all kinds of great sins).

84-And Musa (Moses) said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to Allah’s Will).”

85-They said: "In Allah we put our trust. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the folk who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) (i.e. do not make them overpower us).

86-“And save us by Your Mercy from the disbelieving folk.”

87-And We revealed to Musa (Moses) and his brother (saying): “Provide dwellings for your people in Egypt, and make your dwellings as places for your worship, and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat ), and give glad tidings to the believers.”

88-And Musa (Moses) said: “Our Lord! You have indeed bestowed on Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of this world, our Lord! that they may lead men astray from Your Path. Our Lord! Destroy their wealth, and harden their hearts, so that they will not believe until they see the painful torment.”

89-Allah said: “Verily, the invocation of you both is accepted. So you both keep to the Straight Way (i.e. keep on doing good deeds and preaching Allah’s Message with patience), and follow not the path of those who know not (the truth i.e. to believe in the Oneness of Allah, and also to believe in the Reward of Allah: Paradise).”

90-And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Fir’aun (Pharaoh) with his hosts followed them in oppression and enmity, till when drowning overtook him, he said: “I believe that none has the right to be worshipped but He (Allah) in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allah’s Will).”

91-Now (you believe) while you refused to believe before and you were one of the Mufsidun (evil-doers, the corrupters).

92-So this day We shall deliver your (dead) body (out from the sea) that you may be a sign to those who come after you! And verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).

93-And indeed We settled the Children of Israel in an honourable dwelling place (Sham and Misr), and provided them with good things, and they differed not until the knowledge came to them. Verily, Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection in that in which they used to differ.

94-So if you are in doubt concerning that which We have revealed unto you, then ask those who are reading the Book [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] before you]. Verily, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So be not of those who doubt (it).**

Verse 93 ends the story of Moses then Allah start addressing Muhammed, read the commentaries even Pickthal translated that as Muhammed:
PICKTHAL: And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee. Verily the Truth from thy Lord hath come unto thee. So be not thou of the waverers.

well , i just put the verse in it’s context , i will not impose my thoughts i just share with it .

i have no problem if it was addressing mohammed (pbuh) , although the verse just say “thou” where we can understand that it refer to mohammed (pbuh) as for he is the one who recieved the quran , but actually when muslims read it they consider “thou” as if it was to the reader in general

anyway my point not about if it was addressing mohammed (pbuh) or not , my point is to specify what quran is talking about , the verse not asking us to learn our religion entirely from jews and christians , and offcourse not asking us to disbelieve in islam if jews said us so , where is your logic ?
it’s just talking about moese (pbuh) the prophet of jews , and it says to muslims that this story about moses (pbuh) is mentioned in the previous books , that’s all

Also, those very same Jews in medina knew that the prophet Muhammad was the one mentioned in their book, something they themselves knew and admitted! Yet they still continued to oppose the prophet Muhammad.

(Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write whom they find written of with them in the Tawrah and the Injil.)(7:157)
They are as certain of this as they are about who their children are, yet they hide it and distort it. They did not believe in it despite its clear evidence.

So note, the previous books such as the Torah and Gospel do attest to the truth found in the Quran, such as information on the prophet Muhammad, and the Jews themselves knew this:

Saffiyah says, “I was my father’s and my uncle’s favorite child. When the Messenger of Allah came to Madinah and stayed at Quba, my parents went to him at night and when they looked disconcerted and worn out. I received them cheerfully but to my surprise no one of them turned to me. They were so grieved that they did not feel my presence. I heard my uncle, Abu Yasir, saying to my father, ‘Is it really him?’ He said, ‘Yes, by Allah’. My uncle said: ‘Can you recognize him and confirm this?’ He said, ‘Yes’. My uncle said, ‘How do you feel towards him?’ He said, ‘By Allah I shall be his enemy as long as I live.’”

So Jews did recognize the fact that the prophet Muhammad was in their book, so if there was truthful Jew and you went and asked him, then yes, he would confirm that we Muslims and the prophet Muhammad are on the straight path which is confirmed by their own very books.

and may be Allah is speaking to the people in general to go and ask the learned Jews. Now this is common sense that those Jews will lie, so it appears that Allah is speaking of those Jews who have embraced Islam like Abdullah bin Sailam.

Secondly, when you go and ask somebody something, it is not to really get an answer from them every time, sometimes you ask someone a question to simply expose them, this could also be the case here in being commanded to ask the people of the Book. or to argue and discuss thier own holy books

**For the two questions of the OP (NP), the reply to first question is that one should read the verses of chapter 37 of Quran from verse 83 onward to verse 112. All will become clear that the sacrifice was for the first born son Ishmael. Issac was not yet born. the good news of the birth of Issac was given to Abraham after he had sacrificed his son Ishmael in the way of Allah. Allah was pleased and granted Abraham a son from the barren wife Sarah.

The sacrifice is usually of the first born, first fruit.
Issac could not be sacrificed because he was not yet born and also because it was told to Abraham that Issac would be a prophet. It was also told to Abraham that he will get a grandson from Issac and his name will be Jacob.

How could Issac be sacrificed in the light of such news given to Abraham?

Now question number 2. Please see verses 16/43 and 21/7 of the Quran, as shown below:

[16:41] وَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُواْ فِى ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا ظُلِمُواْ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمۡ فِى ٱلدُّنۡيَا حَسَنَةً۬‌ۖ وَلَأَجۡرُ ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُ‌ۚ لَوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ
[16:41] And as to those who have left their homes for the sake of Allah after they had been wronged (persecuted), We will surely give them a goodly abode in this world: and truly the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if they but knew —

[16:42] (They are )Those who are steadfast and put their trust in their Lord.

[16:43] And We sent not as Messengers before thee but men to whom We sent revelation, so ask those who possess the Reminder, if you know not.

========================================================

[21:6] No township, before them, which We destroyed, ever believed. Would they then believe?

[21:7] And We sent none as Messengers before thee but men to whom We sent revelations. So ask the people of the Reminder, if you know not.**

In the above verses it is being told to the pagans of Arabia that if they have any doubt about revelation and messengership then they should ask the People of the book i.e. Jews and Chrisians.

In verse 16/43, and verse 21/7, it is told that Allah has always been sending men as messengers to whom He revealed His messages. He never sent down any God on earth.

That Quran was nothing but a reminder of what had gone before. It was nothing new out of the blue. It was the same message as was given to all earlier messengers to all nations of the world.

Sequence of Biblical events

Genesis 16 - Ishmael is born
Genesis 17 - Convenant of Circumcision
Genesis 18 - Birth of Isaac Promised
Genesis 19 - The Doom of Sodom & Lots Journey out
Genesis 20 - Abraham’s Treachery
Genesis 21 - Isaac Is Born - Sarah Turns against Hagar - Gets thrown out of their house

:okpeople: ----> ** Genesis 22 - The Offering of Isaac **

And regarding your top posts on two verses (see quote below), what’s the reason that allah has to repeat himself? It seems like the author of the koran doubled up on them.

[21:7] And We sent none as Messengers before thee but men to whom We sent revelations. So ask the people of the Reminder, if you know not.

I have no doubt at all that God revealed NOTHING to Mohammed and the Coran is a demonic delusion.
