My priest friend gave me a 1960’s mass missal, very thick. I like it, it has prayers, the mass can be followed using this book but it is for the old Latin Mass. My question is where can I buy a modern missal to follow the new Mass, has everyday prayers, Liturgical seasons, sacraments and other Catholic information? Would prefer hardback cover. Does anyone make these anymore? I did an internet search and came up with nothing. My local Catholic bookstore only sells the Missalettes. Thank you!

Make sure you call or write Scepter Publishers first to see if the Missal sold at the link given above is the new, Fall 2004 edition, also known as the “2nd Printing of the 6th Edition.”

You do not want to buy the Fall 2003 edition, also known as the “1st Printing of the 6th Edition,” as it contains hundreds of mis-prints and typos.

The “large print” version of the Fall 2004 edition can already be ordered through this link . . .

theologicalforum.org/marketplace/browse.asp?category=92

It is good to note, this Missal is not an annual publication – it is the complete text of all the Mass prayers (in Latin and English) and readings (English only) for all three Sunday cycles and both weekday cycles. ALSO NOTE: this Missal corresponds to the current Roman Rite, a.k.a the “Novus Ordo” or more properly as the Missa Normativa.

The printing prior to 2003 was back in 1988. The reason that a new one has been printed 2 years in a row is due to the unfortunate error(s) that led to the 2003 edition having such an incredible number of mis-prints, literally hundreds.

I own the 1998 edition, the 2003 edition – and I look forward to purchasing an “upgrade” to my 2003 edition in a few months. I really like and encourage purchase of Scepter’s Daily Roman Missal, but don’t want forum readers to be disappointed through purchase of a defective product. Definitely, wait for the “corrected” edition.

I have contacted Sceptor and they state the printing will happen sometime in December. In the mean time, the monthly edition of the Magnificat would sure provide a wealth of tools on a daily basis until the new DRM comes out!

You could look into the St. Joseph Missal put out by Catholic Book Publishing. They’ve got various versions including the 3 volume set for Sundays and Weekdays, or various individual volumes for Sundays or weekdays in several formats. You can look into it here

You can always buy a New St Joseph Sunday Missal for about $20.00. Catholic Book Publishing Company. I have had mine for three years and have fouind no errors in it yet.

Hello all!

I just came upon this tread after purchasing this catholiccompany.com/product_detail.cfm?ID=2781
edition of the New Roman Missal. Does anyone know if this is the updated and corrected version, or the one that whosebob is referring to above?

Thanks in advance -
Jon
This appears to be the new version mentioned above. It is the same one that I got just last week from my local Catholic bookstore. If it is the same one that I have, it will have a beautiful “Ex Libris” page near the beginning. The 2003 edition does not have it. I am enjoying this one very much, as I hope you will. 😃

You could also buy a subscription to the Magnificat. Our Priests use it, which is where I first saw it. It even has all the daily readings etc., it comes once a month.
