Where can I buy a real rosary?

I’m put off by flattened and outlandish designs. I want something with two, silver metal, wooden-type beams and a clear, easy to make out, corpus on it. And the beads, simply black. And nothing plastic. No need for silver end caps.

If anyone’s seen a circa 1957 rosary, then you know exactly what I’m referring to.

Check a nearby monastery or convent, they tend to be very simply made by the Brothers or Sisters that live there

Make your own as I do. All the parts are readily available on line; search on rosary parts, you will find all the instructions for tying as well. I make mine with wooden beads, heavy nylon cord and various center medals and crucifixes. I have just been asked by one of our priests to make one for him!

The Rosaries I like best are the ones with cord and wooden beads. They seem to have less chance of breaking than the ones with chains.

do you have any kind of Catholic store near you? They may be able to special order it. In Nebraska, we have Gloria Deo. You might look them up on the internet and see what they can do for you. They have special ordered hard to find items for me before.
 
rosaryshop.com You can buy parts to make your own or design what you want and have them make it. I had one custom made for me about 5 years ago and it’s beautiful and their customer service is great.
 
I cant find nice rosaries too. My old one is so awesome. Its silver and the beads are marble…still looks beautiful…
 
I should have mentioned earlier that I do not dislike chain Rosaries. I have many. Maybe I have just been unlucky but I have had lots of chain Rosaries (some expensive gifts to me) break but I have never had a cord Rosary with wooden beads break. Personally I think the cord ones are more practical and harder wearing for daily use.

I just took a look and there are countless used Rosaries just exactly what you are looking for on Ebay. Make sure you log in vintage rosaries and in the filter boxes to the left, check used. Just on the first page alone there were over 40 black men’s rosaries that match your criteria. God Bless and good hunting:)

👍 I had one made by the Sisters…it is beautiful! You can control the price by what options you order. I like the fact that you can customize to your liking.
 
Making one yourself will be the perfect one for you, sounds to me. while youre at it, make a few extras for your friends. Even non Catholics are starting to say the rosary!
Recently, I have developed a plan to rescue old rosaries whenever I see one in an “antique/junk” store and have gotten some beautiful old glass and silver ones at a very reasonable price. All Catholics, be on the lookout for old Crucifixes and rosarys plus some gorgeous original artwork of religious themes, nto to mention some gorgeous stained glass from European homes that are being “updated/improved” I find it was cheaper and more well made than someting you could buy new, too.

I think it is so cool to make your own. My son gets his first rosary in first grade. ( next year) they give them cheap plastic ones. It would be cool, we could make one together and talk about it as we make one. Do I have to get it blessed? 👍

I wasn’t alive back in 1957. So can you give me a little more information?

What do you mean by “two, silver metal, wooden-type beams?” Are you talking about a ladder rosary?

I run a small Catholic gift store, if I have enough information, I can look through my supplier’s options and see if there are any that fit the bill. If you live in the US, shipping would be cheap.
