I am looking for good resources to evaluate books and movies for teenagers. Do you know some? The book I want reviewed is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, I read her site and found out she is Mormon. I could not find Catholic reviews. Any guidance is appreciated!

A good resource for Catholic movie reviews is Steven D. Greydanus’s site Decent Films Guide. I am unaware of a similar site of comparable quality for Catholic book reviews.

As a general rule-of-thumb, when parents have questions about the suitability of books for their children, they should read the books themselves and evaluate them for appropriateness. This is a very traditional means of handling questionable books. For example, some of my favorite passages of Anne Frank’s [ The****Diary of a Young Girl (http://www.amazon.com/Diary-Young-Girl-Definitive/dp/0553577123) deal with its teenage author’s recollections of her parents and parents’ friends reading first and determining the suitability for the teens of books brought in to the secret annex by the group’s helpers. Some of the books were passed on to the children for reading, others were withheld.

For more information on how parents can make informed choices for their children’s reading, please see the links below.
