Where can I find the day's propers?

Hello.

I was using a monastery’s website for the day’s propers, but they aren’t putting them up any longer. I am looking for the full propers including aposticha, theotokion, troparion, kontakion, and stichera. I prefer new calendar new paschalian, but can work with new calendar old paschalian. I would really like to find one for the UGCC, so I don’t have to piece together different sources. I know it is in the menaion, but I can’t afford that right now.

I found some for the old calendar, but that doesn’t work well. They have us in the forefeast of the Nativity right now instead of in the forefeast of Theophany. Are there any Ukies here who can help?

Metropolitan Cantor Institute has the bulk in the menaion; the tonal sticharia, theotokia and aposticha are in the daily vespers book.
 
Tim, the Horologion published by the Eparchy of Stamford is the best single-volume for everything you have mentioned (I assume by Aposticha you are meaning both Vespers and Matins). It also has the common for all of the Hours. You can call Ksenia at the chancery in Stamford and see if there are any left.

If she is out it is possible that Byzantine Church Supply in Philadelphia may have one - Pani Dobrodivka Miroslava is also delightful to work with and is Fr. Ivan Demkiv (the cathedral rector)'s wife.

For just the troparia and kontakia, the Anthology published by the Sheptytsky Institute contains all of these as well as much more material, including the Little Hours, pre- and post-Communion prayer rule, special services, etc.

One has to take some level of common sense with the Hours and ancillary texts - not only in acquiring them (which would require a small fortune) but also in their use. To have even a generally complete set of the propers for Matins and Vespers and the other hours takes about 20 volumes (Horologion, Psalter, 12 Menaia, Pentecostarion, Triodion, Irmologion, Lectionary, Octoechos (can be four to eight volumes itself) - and then other volumes such as Akafystnyks, etc.

The key is to start simply and become familiar with the texts and order you are using; then if you want to branch out go from there.

Thank you. I do evening Vespers and have the Anthology and Psalter. I’ve used the Cantor Institute’s menaion, but it is only has Sundays and major feasts. I use the general manaion for the category of commemoration but would like to start using the saint’s propers for the day. I will look at the Eparchy of Stamford’s Horologion.

It has complete daily Vespers from the Octoechos, many weekday Matins, feasts, and almost all the troparia and kontakia from the Horologion.
 
The Anthology contains “commons” for most classes of saints for the troparia and kontakia set to Galician samoylka, the most common musical tradition in use within the UGCC.

We do not restrict ourselves to one musical subtradition, and we often use other types of chant common amongst the Kyivan Churches, such as variations of Kyivan chant and other developed local traditions such as Pochaiv and Ternopil.

I will second Anastasis and use it frequently.

The Vespers propers for major feast days in UGCC usage are also available on the St. Ireneaus Mission Society webpage stirenaeus.net/vespers.htm These are edited for use with Galician samohlasniy chant and also generally work well with Kyivan chant styles. Many years to Fr. Michael for his hard work on the Vespers propers that I have made abundant use of for a number of years.

The OCA also has many propers for feasts at
oca.org/MDtexts.asp?SID=13 I have generally found these much more adaptable to either Galician or Kyivan samohlasny that we use in the UGCC rather than the MCI settings when other texts (such as St. Ireneaus, Horologion, etc.) were not available.
