If there are any Catholic stores in your area, I would visit them and support them. That way you can see and hold what you are interested in and be assured of the quality before you buy.
This is a good idea, but sadly…mom and pop Catholic stores are vanishing, if there were any in the first place, like around here. :o

Sleeping with a rosary in my hand or under my pillow benefits me sometimes.
All of the above are good ideas though. 👍

Just a suggestion from another person who feels the need to curl up to something blessed when she sleeps- I sometimes wrap a rosary around my wrist and hold the crucifix in my hand.

Haha- I thought I was a silly girl- glad to know i’m not alone:)
Hey, I do the rosary in my hand at night as well, it really helps me sleep through. I use a single decade rosary - I used a full sized one, but it kept getting caught on the blankets and breaking, the single decade one goes around my wrist and I hold the crucifix. I’m not a girl, but I still find comfort in a rosary!

If the aren’t any local Catholic stores to begin with, that’s one thing. But if they do exist, let’s try to keep them going! :yup:

Sleeping with a rosary in my hand has either broken the rosary or injured me (all my rosaries with a crucifix are chain link or wire wrapped :o). YMMV.

OP, is there a reason the crucifix you seek must be made of metal, or is that just a personal preference?

Amazon has a wide variety of crucifixes to choose from that are inexpensive and look nice. If you want something inexpensive and practical, it would be a good place to start.

I’ve been lucky enough not to break mine yet! Mind you, I usually only use a rosary i’m not afraid of breaking to wrap around my wrist at night. My favourite rosary was an investment piece, something i’ll be able to pass down to my son one day when I pass on, that one is used daily and lives in a leather pouch for safe keeping:) I think I may actually make myself a rosary bracelet… something using hemp or string and some earthy beads… that way I can wear a rosary 24/7- and it’d be unlikely to break:)

Hi, thank you for your help. I just checked their online catalogue and couldn’t find one that meets my requirements. I just want a simple, not ornate, yet traditional looking crucifix. I would like that the crucifix be weighty, yet not too big. It is neither a wall or table crucifix, but one that I could hold when I sleep. So ideally it should be a metal one around 6-7 inches. But thank you for your reply and concern. 🙂
This is the one I like:

Dear All,

Thank you so much for your wonderful suggestions! The local catholic store in my area only has large wall crucifixes, and I have decided to try my luck on eBay for a travel crucifix made with metal. Those antique nun’s/ pectoral crucifixes made in France look lovely, and their style and craftsmanship meet my requirement. I only wish the same style is still being manufactured nowadays since it is not as easy to find cheap-priced antique items on eBay as before. 🙂 Btw, these metal Byzantine crucifixes look great for me, too.😊

To Joelle M and Crusaderbear: I am so glad that your rosaries provide you with a sense of security and comfort.🙂 Sadly it didn’t work for me. I remember in one of my nightmares I encountered an evil entity that tried to suffocate me. I remember that in my dream, I hit “it” with my rosary as self-defense, and it ran away. What’s spooky is that the next morning when I woke up, I noticed that my rosary (allegedly being blessed by the pope) had been broken, and the crucifix had fallen down from the rosary.

To UpUpAndAway: The reason that I prefer metal is that it’s heavier and feels weighty and nice on my palm. It gives me a feeling of strength. It’s also durable and can be kept for many years. 🙂

Hey good luck! More importantly, I’ll pray for your nightmares to go away.
