I’d like to learn the ‘Our Father’ in latin. I have the text, but have no idea how to pronounce some of the words. Unfortunately, I can’t understand it well enough on the EWTN daily Mass. Anyone know where I can listen to it on the internet, or perhaps a cd? Thanks!

It’s really neat to see that so many other folks are trying to learn Latin. I felt inspired to do it about a month ago and so far I’ve memorized the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and most of the Creed. I’m currently working on the Angelus. There is something very special about saying my prayers in Latin. The Our Father was difficult for me, but one day I just “got it”. I purchased the CD of JPII saying the Rosary, and I find it very comforting. I found it difficult to make out the responses of the congregation at first.

I have been working very hard at learning the proper ecclesiatical Latin pronunciation and I have started a thread asking for pronunciation assistance. Please feel free to use it with any of your pronunciation questions. It can be found at: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=1377168

I guess regional accents would creep in, regardless of where it was recorded.

They do, but if you listen carefully, you can minimize the accent. I have a recording of a choir from Georgia- I wouldn’t guess them to be from Georgia.

I myself have trouble with my Latin b/c I learned the classical style, and though I try to keep it ecclesiastical, the classic comes out when I least expect it!

One of my English patrons reported accent issues back in his day:
I sang Mass at the Propaganda College on the Epiphany and the Pope asked Cardinal Barnabo afterwards, ‘Well, did Ullathorne do himself honour?’ The Cardinal replied: "I was not there, but the prelate who sang Vespers caused himself to be compassionated’. The humour of the thing is that, according to the Pope’s notion, no Englishman can sing Mass decently.
