Where Did I Go Wrong In This Article About Mary?

I don’t think baptized babies are sinless. If you think about it, even babies have a sinful nature. Just think about the baby who takes what he wants out of another baby’s hand. Or the 18 month old who hit his brother because he is angry. Does the baby know he is sinning? Of course not. Does it demonstrate a sinful nature (instinct)? I think so.
Demonstrating a sinful nature is not sinning.

To sin, one must know that what one is doing is sinful.

Your blogger is suffering from “Sola Verse-ura” which means that unless its spelled out in a single Scriptural Verse, then it ain’t Scriptural. I call it “losing the forest for the tree”.
Deb…“NotWorthy” has stated it succinctly. That’s it in a nutshell. This is not to your detriment however, it is due to the failings of others who have limited their view of God and His creation to that which they can prove of disprove based on a “snippet of Scripture” coupled with “their” interpretation.

Personally, I found your article to be well written, concise and understandable…without a lot of hyperbole and mumbo-jumbo. Perhaps it the clarity that disturbs some. I did not read the anti- responses… I can probably recite them verbatim without opening them up. Nothing new.

You have to remember…that there are those in this world who claim to be “believers”…but they are not Catholics, and they are so against our Church that they might even deny Christ to his face…to prove their hatred of the Church. I realize that is a strong statement…but I do believe it to be factual. Are not these people who deny The Blessed Virgin Mary’s “sinlessness” already doing that to some extent? Are they not already doing that by not accepting the teachings of the Church that Christ Himself founded.

There are those who just refuse to grasp the truth…afterall, to accept the “Truth” is to accept the Church…and if they were to do that, would that not negate the reasons and justifications of their denomination or religion?

Keep up the Good Work!!

So you don’t think that babies are sinners? What about the verse “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”?

All have sinned” - Hyperbole? All have original sin within them? I’m not sure.

If “All” means “All” in this case, then the Church’s teaching on sin being a knowing thing is false. I trust the Bride of Christ to be better guided than that.

“… and fall short of the glory of God”. That’s 100% True!!! We do all fall short.

Appended:
“All have sinned…” I just remembered, isn’t this a reference to a Psalm. The Psalmist chastise those that attack him and mentions that “All (his attackers) have sinned”. I’m a little short on time and don’t have the time to track this down. I will if further pressed, unless one of my brothers or sisters knows what I’m talking about.

But now 7 the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, though testified to by the law and the prophets,
22
the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction;
23
all have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God.
24
They are justified freely by his grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus,
25
whom God set forth as an expiation, 8 through faith, by his blood, to prove his righteousness because of the forgiveness of sins previously committed,
26
through the forbearance of God–to prove his righteousness in the present time, that he might be righteous and justify the one who has faith in Jesus.
27
What occasion is there then for boasting? 9 It is ruled out. On what principle, that of works? No, rather on the principle of faith. 10
28
For we consider that a person is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
29
Does God belong to Jews alone? Does he not belong to Gentiles, too? Yes, also to Gentiles,
30
for God is one and will justify the circumcised on the basis of faith and the uncircumcised through faith.
31
Are we then annulling the law by this faith? Of course not! On the contrary, we are supporting the law. 11

Read the entire passage! This deals with personal sin, not original sin or concupiscience. A baby cannot commit personal sin. Stop taking this verse out of context.
