Where did the concept of the Trinity come from?

Have Christians always had this doctine, or when did it come about?

From what I’ve heard some Bible Scholars came up with it a long time ago, but I’m not sure if thats true but I would really like to know where it came from.

Let’s be very precise here. If you mean the teaching that there is One God, and that at the same time the Father is God, and the Son is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God, these doctrines are as old as Christianity.

The terms that we use to describe and explain how this can be so… those terms developed over time, but for the most part, much more quickly than many people give credit for.

[Speculation: I suspect that this is because the early Christians had to (a) evangelize Jews whose attachment to the *sh’ma is (rightly so) adamantine; and (b) explain the relationship between Christianity and Judaism to the pagans they were evangelizing.]
