Hunmm!!!
apparently reading and studying the Word of God has not done much good for you. i see you are still outside the gate.

“I should not believe the Gospel except as moved by the authority of the Catholic Church.”
Saint Augustine (354-430), Against the Letter of Mani, 5,6, 397 A.D… ****
Is this God speaking?

That is the problem, you try to go the narrow door with all you friends, but it only admits one at a time without the baggage.
Matt 7:13-14
Wow. Why did not not answer the questions?

Did Jesus pray that we would all be one as he and the father are one?

When are you going to get serious about reading and STUDYING the word of God, so you can quit making such foolish arguments. And if you say you already do, then it would be of grave concern to me.

Also, I do believe some Catholics do not see through the rituals and theatrics and are part of the elect.
I see.

The ‘liar liar pants on fire’ rebuttal.

Look, I’m not trying to pick a verbal fight here. Really, I’m not. And of course, we all knew this thread would get heated based on the title alone. But the foolish arguments I make, as you say, should be simple for you to refute.

I just really ask how it is that folks like yourself, and SIA, and the countless others that attempt to evangelize Catholics…how is it that YOU have the truth about our salvation (all that we need to know to have ultimate union with God), by claiming personally revealed truth from the Holy Spirit Himself as He apparently interprets your bible for you, but you DON’T accept a different truth of this salvation from another non-Catholic who ALSO claims this EXACT SAME source of revealed truth?? And explain it without the arrogance (and ignorance) of claiming that they DON’T have it…but YOU DO.

Because you know what…no Catholic claims to have it like that, individually and personally. Oh, we claim to have it alright…but it is ours only by virtue that it was entrusted to The Church…the True Church. It is OURS, collectively…the Body of Christ’s.

I mean…just show me the logic…and I will consider a conversion to the church of ‘you’. I’m really trying to mean that without the sarcasm. It’s just difficult to do so.

God Bless

Look, all I can tell you is that the Word of God has transformed my life to the point that when I look at my past it seems like a dream, a nightmare, …not even real, can’t believe I thought I was remotely a “good” person. But it is the power of God’s word to transform lives one person or heart at a time. You will never find the truth on the Roman institution, but you will find it in the Bible. I’ll tell you this as well…most people who call themselves Christians are not. you have many that name the name of Christ, but few that actually posses (Matt 7:13 till the end)..this adds a lot of confusion, which is the work of the devil. There is nothing more heart wrenching that to think you are saved, only to find out in the end that “I never knew you, depart from me…” You can know with certainty and it is a gift from God; just like every aspect of salvation is. My heart breaks over the lost no matter where they are; each one of us are made in God’s image and all of the saved were lost at some point.

God bless you…friend!

And I sincerely cry out in my heart, “Amen”, brother. With all sincerity. We would just want you to know that this transformation in your life is a quite common experience in faithful Christians everywhere who discover Christ (of course with different flavors for different people). It is a common experience of the joy of Christ in a person’s life…and devout Catholics everywhere want to make you see that, although you had this experience outside His Church, you didn’t have to. And we would also be so bold as to say…so much more of His fullness awaits you within The Church, if you would only tear down your barriers of misunderstanding and preconceived notions.
You will never find the truth on the Roman institution, but you will find it in the Bible.
As long as that’s all your mind will allow you to think of His Church (as a human institution concocted by man), then it will do no good for anyone to insist to you that it isn’t that at all. You see, there’s no reaching a person so coldly repulsed by the very name of His Church. Many of us pray for Christ to guide us in this outreach. We still try to make a defense of our faith when it is undermined or attacked…especially when the accusations are so blatantly false. We want you to see that Christ is the very core of our lives…everything about Him. The Church guides us toward the fullness of Him in everything we do. We respect others who are repulsed by Her…but can’t help ourselves but engage in dialogue and apologetics when the hatred is unfounded and based on lies.

Just ask yourself one question the next time you rattle off something against The Church…and that is this…

Where am I getting this information? Where precisely am I getting this information? Have I ever gone to my local Catholic parish, scheduled an hour with the priest, and asked him myself to clarify these things? Have I ever “really” spent time in the Catechism? Have I ever really read the early Church fathers?
Do I really know exactly what purgatory is? what Mary’s role is? what infallibility really means? And I mean REALLY know. Not just think you know.

That’s all I ask you do.
I’ll tell you this as well…most people who call themselves Christians are not.
And I would agree. Devout Catholics will tell you many in our flock fit that bill to a tee…they don’t come close to living up to their commitments and response to God. This is not, however, due in the slightest to the teachings of The Church. Not in the slightest. This is due to the usual luke-warmness that plagues so many in this world. These are the ones who give all us devout Christians a bad name. They know NOT their faith. There are as many of these types in non-Catholic denoms, of course, but they come from everywhere, sure.
You can know with certainty and it is a gift from God; just like every aspect of salvation is.
Disagree with the “certainty” part…we can have a “reasonable assurance” and an abundant hope. Assurance only in the sense that we are successfully living in obedience and repentance. Completely agree with the “gift” part. All of it is an undeserved gift. All of it. Nothing we did earned it. Our days were numbered, except for the Grace of God through His Son. Sound familiar? You see, we believe all this…just as you do. We just hold fast to the true teaching that our gift must be willingly received (which is to say, we must participate and cooperate with that FREE GIFT throughout our lives)…this means obedience and repentance are a MUST. That’s why we never claim absolute certainty at ANY point in our lives. Never was designed that we would absolutely KNOW until the end. Scripture supports this so abundantly, it’s deafening.
My heart breaks over the lost no matter where they are; each one of us are made in God’s image and all of the saved were lost at some point.
Again, Amen.
God bless you…friend!
And God Bless you.

p.s. please take some time on your own when you can and really contemplate on the issues I brought up regarding the problems with personal bible interpretation from the Holy Spirit, especially when the subject of interpretation is salvific doctrine (what is needed to be saved).

The two statements about the bishop make sense of course. In reality, I cannot imagine the bishops pay much attention to the internet. Maybe they do? Maybe some more than others?
Let’s take the Catholics who write books like Mark Shea, Karl Keating, and others…Scott Hahn. I suppose they check with the bishop? I have never looked to see if any of the “popular” books have the seal of approval (cant remember name but you know what I mean).

Yes Trishie I do know quite about about the official argument if you will ex cathedra statements, catechism, councils etc. I am thinking more along the lines you talk about:thumbsup:

**I for one would love to know where these people get their authority. This nuisance is a very serious abuse **** **

If the bishops do not assert their authority, this mischief will become unmanageable** 😦 😦 The laity have no authority - least of all when they lack any mandate to teach others, & lack the intellectual & spiritual form****ation to do so.**

I pray God will penetrate your harded-heart; less you should die in your sin.
I am not Catholic but…

How do you know that the poster you are responding to needs God to penetrate his/her hardened-heart, lest she die in his/her sin?

Just asking?

did you read Matt 7:13-14? You already know my answer.
I never thought about that implying a prayer from Jesus to the Father that we be one. THat always seemed like a warning to us that the road was long and hard and not everyone would make it.

In John, in the Garden, he did pray that we all be one as he and the Father are one.

Are all Christians one?

One mind (of Christ) and one spirit (of God).

I understand what you are saying concerning contemplating issues and I have. I try to be like the Bereans and see if it is true in light of Scripture; especially the teaching of the RCC; simply because I have relatives brought up and still practicing the Roman faith. The more I learn about the faith, the more concerns I have about the souls of those in my family and across the globe. It is very difficult many times because I am so heart broken. You can read some of the other posts to get an idea of what I am talking about.

The poster you referred to is LilyM and this is the primary reason, among other, that I said this with confidence. Quote "The Bible and its study is NOT, however worthwhile and important and whatever riches it provides, the be-all and end-all of our faith."

She is a blasphemer of the the Bible and insults my Lord, which angers me.

She may be those things, in your opinion, but you cannot see into Lily’s heart, that is reserved to God alone. And God has said that* we are not to judge*, that is also reserved for God. I submit that your attempting to substitute your judgment for that of God’s is as least as much of an insult to God as that which you have already judged Lily to be guilty of, but then my opinion is simply speculation, as I would not dream of substituting my own judgment for God’s.

Further, I believe that you have misunderstood Lily. She has stated that the Bible is important, but it is not EVERYTHING. Just as an example, Jesus also commanded us to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on a regular basis, at least weekly. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass does involve readings from the Bible, but there is more to it than that. Just out of curiosity, how often do you follow this command of Jesus? And if you don’t ever follow this command, is your failure to do so an insult to God?

My view on this is of course Jesus Christ.

But how is this authority made at liberty to all who ask?

For one: Phl 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Meaning that we have the full backing/support of Christ!

2Cr 5:18 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

We all have a ministry of reconciliation, meaning bringing others to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We are in the word of the bible:Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Kings= of your on kingdom
priests=your intercessory work between heaven and earth.

We can be kings and servants or kings nd priests.

She may be those things, in your opinion, but you cannot see into Lily’s heart, that is reserved to God alone. “Out of the mouth speaks the heart” Matt 15:18 And God has said that* we are not to judge "Where did God say we are not to judge in the context of this statement-keep in mind this person claims to be a Christian?*", that is also reserved for God.

See **Post#53 for full text “We are here to know the FULLNESS of truth, as Christ promised to His apostles. Why should we be satisfied with the bare bones minimum the Bible provides” ** It was only after I rebuked her on this that she softened her tone. She has stated that the Bible is important, but it is not EVERYTHING. ***1 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. ***…Before you draw that conclusion you must read all the post between her and I, not just the one." Just as an example, Jesus also commanded us to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on a regular basis, at least weekly. **Where in Scripture is this? **The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass does involve readings from the Bible, but there is more to it than that. Just out of curiosity, how often do you follow this command of Jesus? What command, please clarify? And if you don’t ever follow this command, is your failure to do so an insult to God?
**Jesus actually commands us to judge. ** Matt 7:1-6 1 "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 "For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 "Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. 6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

Melanie, It is great that you are questioning what you see and read…keep it up! 😉

Also, see post #55, "It is those who treat it (referring to the Bible), as you seem to, as an end (or nearly and end) in itself, who have the superficial belief - the belief that a series of black or red squiggles on a paper constitute a complete or nearly complete basis for knowing God.

Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

The scriptures testify of the one to whom we owe our salvation.

Jesus was giving notice that salvation was not of the scriptures but of the one the scriptures testified of.

In there, in the scriptures is the light of the world presented for our benefit, by and in which we find the Son of God to be our High Priest and Saviour.

The scriptures themselves are open to all kinds of interpretations leading mankind to dream up all kinds of doctrines.

But you will find that when they do that it will not be in accordance with Gods will but their own.

So, how can one be sure what, which one to trust, believe it?

My answer to you is that God is love, and if this love of God comes forth in you and into your daily living, you can rest assured that you are a child of God and in constant surveillance of Him.

God loves you and acts only out of love and not condemnation.

We condemn ourselves by our own behavior, but He is willing to forgive many times over to the salvation of your soul.

Peace>>>AJ

First of all, how is this statement “blaspheming the Bible”? Are you sure you might not be misunderstanding what she is saying? Have you asked her to clarify this statement before you launched into a diatribe of judging her eternal soul? Have you ever thought to consider that maybe anonymous posting over the internet might be easily misunderstood.

Actually I think I agree with this statement, if I understand what she is saying. I think that she is just saying that Bible study is not the primary objective of the Christian faith. I agree with this.

At any rate, what authority do you have to judge the eternal soul of an anonomous poster of the internet that you have absolutely no personal knowledge of? Has God given you a specific word of knowledge on the eternal condition of an anomous persons soul? If not, how do you know?

I kind of like to leave that job up to the Lord Jesus Christ myself.
