I didn’t really get started until college. I warmed a seat in Sunday school, but I never put much effort into it. In fact, I was only Confirmed because I thought it would make my mom happy.
I started going to daily Mass just before Christmas my first year in college, but I was on my own as far as learning the faith went. I started reading from a KJV Bible I got from Walmart years before, and I luckily figured out before finishing Genesis that we Catholics have more books than protestants. One trip to Half Price Books later, I got a NAB.
I went to community college after my first year to save money, and I signed up for a Bible course. Just before my birthday this year, I had read every book in the Bible front to back. I’m now Biblically “literate” (or at least functional), and Catholic Answers has given me the resources I need as far as everything extra-Biblical (Church history, Councils, etc.) are concerned.
So, I have very little formal training. I’ve essentially been figuring things out on my own since I returned to the faith. I think it’s been good for me, but I was very lucky I ended up where I did. If I didn’t have Catholic Answers, I could be just about anything right now.
