Where do I even stand, with my divorce?

Here goes … I was married outside the church. My former husband had been married twice before. Both of his previous, also non Catholic weddings. . His 2nd marriage was simply blessed by a priest, but he refused to go through annulment at the the wife’s request, in a refusal to share any personal information .
He left our marriage , without warning or notice. And we divorced because of adultery and abandonment. I feel our marriage was adulterous due to his previous marriages.

After confession, and with living a chaste single life, can I receive communion again? Is there something I should seek within the Church since I was never married in the church?

It’s been 8 years since. Thank you for any advice.

Divorce is not an impediment to receiving communion. Divorced Catholics are free to receive communion.

If you were a Catholic at the time of your marriage then that means you were required by the Church to be married in the Church (or obtain a dispensation to be married elsewhere). Failure to do so would render the marriage invalid. You can obtain a decree of nullity by showing a tribunal that you are a baptized Catholic married outside the Church.
